How will Masoli develop?

DT has greatly improved his throwing motion and is a lightning bolt when he finds a seam to run. I still think he's at least a year away from being what we all envision. He'd only replace Masoli due to injury..

I personally, would like to see Thomas red-shirt this year. So that when the 2010 season comes around, He'll have 3 years to play and 2 years to start.

I think if Masoli gets hurt this season, you bring in Costa before Roper and if it gets this Roper or Thomas, cut our loses and play Thomas.

But if Thomas can sit this year on the sideline with a clip board and a headset, I think that would be a huge bonus for us in the near future.

I agree,I cant see why anyone would want to bring him in unless it was a only option. We have two guys behind Masoli that are more than capable of winning a lot of the games this year. DONT WASTE D.T. ON A MOP UP OR ANYTHING ELSE UNLESS IT IS TOTALLY UN-AVOIDABLE. IMO

I think that's the way most feel the situation would ideally play out. A lot depends on how healthy Costa's knee really is and can it take a hit. If his knee truely holds up then I see Costa as our clean up guy and maybe some token snaps for a change up/ test of skills.

I'll knock on wood that we see Masoli all year and no 'normal' circumstances happen to our QB depth.

It would be nice to see Costa be the second best qb in the country(Masoli #1 of course)and get tons of playing time because we are up by so much in the 4th quarter every game!The guy has earned it,seems like he has been so loyal to our program sticking with it when it would have been so much easier to quit.Hope some good things finally happen for him.

As for Masoli: the kid dominated at the end of the year as a true sophmore JC transfer that arrived for FALL camp. He did this in an intricate offense, so his football acumen is off the charts. I really think we are in for a treat the next two season. I just pray that the o-line can develope in a hurry. Although, once our guys are all healthy the unit should be fine. Think about the weapons: Blount, James, Holland, Harper, Maehl, Dickson, Lewis, etc. We are so blessed.

I say stop selling Roper short. If JM say gets hurt say in the Cal game and is unavailable for WSU, Roper should play, unless Costa is available. Same for UW. JM needs to be ready for USC. There shouldn't be any reason not to RS DT, unless all the others are down, as of BSU. I think the only game Roper would definitely have trouble would be USC. Others could be UCLA and Utah. We would have beaten BSU last year with Roper. Masoli seems to be a tough one and I don't see a major injury. Maybe getting his bell rung and missing a few plays or a game. Just have him ready for the big one's; USC, CW, BSU, UTAH, and UCLA

I agree. I think Roper is a solid #2. In fact, I think there may be some things he can do more consistently than Masoli. But, Masoli got his chance and made the most of it. So, you don't fix what isn't broken... until or unless it looks broken again.

Short of another multiple QB injury season, I don't see any reason to not red-shirt Thomas this year.
