To me, that is a little high right now for Oregon. I think we should be ranked around 14-17 due to our issues/questions at DL, OL, and WR.

I take it with a grain of salt,..., preseason polls are pretty much nonsense, IMO
Nice that the sportwriters take consideration of the program though. We have not received such high regard in the past.
Win the games in September then there is legitamcy to the consideration.

Re: Sporting News = UO #7
8 for LSU? I guess since all writers are apparently required to have at least 3 SEC teams in their top ten
they would be the logical choice, but (going by those requirements) 10 would seem more fitting.
Green/Yellow - Which 13-16 teams would you put ahead of us and why? Ten teams probably IMHO. I guess it does depend a lot on how you think our O line will do. I just can't put teams ahead of us like Va Tech or FSU or UConn or Boise St. or California or any SEC team other than Florida or __________.
Everybody has question marks going into next season except Florida (returns almost everyone and has a cupcake schedule). Hard for me to see us losing to any of those teams. Not saying it isn't possible. I've certainly lost my share at the sports book. Just hard to see.

These usually don't mean too much. However, it does mean that a good season will increase our chances at a BCS bid. Start high end high... then get Munchie!

This is the template that tOSU and a handful of other schools have been using for decades. Start high, lose a game here or there, suffer minimal consequences and end up in a BCS game (or the title game if you're tOSU)!ncduck wrote:Start high end high...
I say embrace any high ranking we get... we'll either be scrapping to GET IN the top 10 or scrapping to STAY the top ten, Id prefer the latter....

Re: Sporting News = UO #7
Every team has questions going into fall camp: it's the nature of the beast. The attrition rate is such that a unit or two on every team is suspect in terms of experience. Clearly the talent is there for us though. I just don't see the problems with the DL and WR that some express. We will have better WR play next year. We have two very good DE's and a rotation of 5 DT. Bair, Ferras and Toeaina will be able to play up to Linehan and Harris's capabilities. Tukuafu is one year older, Rowe has a great skillset, and our backups with Montgomery, Turner, Taylor and incoming Iupati should make for a great 8 rotation. The OL is definitely the key to next season. If they gel, we could have another record breaking season on offense with Masoli, LGB, LMJ, Holland, Harper & Davis (insert Gaines if he lives to his hype). Read that list once again and let that sink into your heart. MASOLI (heisman darkhorse), LGB (preseason all-american), LMJ (has a guy that's never seen the field made you so giddy?), Holland (video game speed), Harper (most dangerous man with the ball in his hand), & Gaines (could he be the second coming of Dez Bryant). Now, seriously, teams would covet just two of the guys mentioned above. Oklahoma State's drop off after the best trio (Robinson, Bryant, & Hunter) in the country is dramatic. Teams just don't have a bevy of playmaker's like we do.

There should be a rule
that NO POLLS come out until at least week 6 of the season.

Munchie might not be the best player out there, but he is for sure high on my list of wanted recruits.

It might be too high, but when you start looking at the teams behind us, do you really think 7-10 of them are better than us? I could only find a couple teams that I'd say might deserve to be in front of us.greenyellow wrote:To me, that is a little high right now for Oregon. Also, it's always best to start high. Nothing bad can come out of it other than maybe overconfidence. If we finish with 2 losses, starting at 7 could be the difference to making an at large bid by the end of the season.

I maybe put us down too low. Now that I've thought about it more, I can see Oregon as a top-10 team but with potential to be higher if the situations on the line, WR, and special teams are worked out.

If you put our schedule in to consideration #7 might be accurate. We have all our big Pac-10 games this year at home. Our OOC is difficult though. However, Utah is at home and I feel good about our chances since they'll be breaking in a quarterback.

Bleacher Report got the memo:

SEC in top ten = 1.Florida, 4. LSU, 6. Mississippi, 7. Alabama
At least they put us ahead of VA Tech. Tyrod Taylor gets so much lip service you would think they had a better offense than they do. How boring was that BCS game between Va Tech and Cincinnatti?
