Holland dropped what should have been an easy touchdown against Boise State as well, although he jumped the gun on his route so it would have been called back. Hopefully he doesn't prove to be a player that consistently chokes under pressure. The Ducks aren't good enough to give away touchdowns when their deep threat has opportunities to haul in easy touchdown passes.

The lack of hands displayed by the wide receivers thus far has been embarrassing.

"He definitely dropped more than one pass. He also nearly cost the Ducks the game when they brought him in as part of the hands team and he failed to haul in the onside kick that hit him in the hands."

Would you be referring to the second screen pass that Masoli threw at his shins? Cost the Ducks the game? Yes, you're right, if he didn't haul in the onside kick, it would have been Maehl's fault the Ducks lost. Please, what almost cost us the game was Purdue's ability to drive the ball 70 yards down our throat to score and almost tie the game (for whatever reason).

"Maehl and Holland both need to play better, that is the bottom line."

..........agreed, and everyone else too. Maehl's been one of the few consistent performers for our O thus far, maybe disappointing (depending on what you expect), but put in the context of the entire team's performance, he's one of the few that shines

No dude, he didn't have three drops against BSU. On two of those plays he was thrown balls that nobody would bring in. One ball skipped, the other was thrown out of bounds on identical, back to back plays, in the second quarter.

I get it, some of you have some irrational dislike for Maehl. I'd like to know what you'd like for him to do, so that he is not "disappointing" you. Oh and as a general rule, you can't make up drops.

Why have the Ducks had such a problem in the last few years with WR's not being able to catch the ball? It is also crazy to think USC recruited Holland and he was such a hot prospect but he also has a hard time catching the ball. Not to write off this season because there is still a lot of games to be played and I think the Ducks will get better and have a decent season but I am excited to see Darron Thomas throwing to Diante Jackson and hopefully some other good WR's. By the way one thing that worked well for Oregon in the past was passing plays to the RB. With Barner and LMJ's speed I would like to see some pass plays involving them. Is Gaines going to play this season and where is Tunei? We have all of these big WR's, I would like to see Masoli moving outside of the pocket when throwing the ball so he can see how wide open they are.

This might sound silly, but I liked Oregon's offense better when they didn't run the spread. I loved watching guys like Akili Smith, Harrington and Clemens along with Saladin Mcollough, Droughns, Mo Morris, etc.

Dixon, Stewart, n Co trump all..that was the most potent offense we've ever had..The spread is legit when you get the right guys.

I don't know, I am not sure any offense I have watched was as good as 07 when they were in sync... Though I agree when it is not working it is brutal and is really unfair to our defense...

So basically you liked the offenses that had the best players in the schools history. We could run the freaking wishbone but if the offense is loaded with a bunch of 1st day NFL picks we are gonna have success. I couldn't care what kind of offense we run, as long as we're scoring.

The offense we have now is fine, we are just incredibley young & need to get some experience. Fans that want a TD every play & expect us to score on every possession are living in a fantasy. We've been so spoiled as fans the last few years, now we're whining & complaining like a bunch of spoiled little brats who don't get exactly what we want. There is such a thing as rebuilding at Oregon, we're not SC. Get over it.

I went to school at Oregon during that time, so yes, those were my favorite offenses. You shouldn't hate others for having a different opinion. Did I say I didn't like the 07 offense? Did I say the spread wasn't effective? Also, it doesn't all have to do with the players. I miss the days of the play action pass and seeing our receivers have huge games.

Anyway, I would like to change the subject because I don't want to get into a pissing match and be the center of attention in a thread like this. If you had one play to pick from the game that was your favorite, which was it? Mine was the touchdown run by Barner.

Wrong, when our offense is rocking (which it almost always is), it's the greatest thing to watch in this world.

Right now, we just have soo many changes and it's gonna take a while to get through the growing pains. Lots of new coaches, including a new head coach. Blount is gone, so we have to completely adjust.

The reason you loved watching those guys in the past was not because the offense was better, but because those were great players. If you put Akili in the spread, he'd do just as good.

It's not a matter of right or wrong. I was just saying that I enjoyed watching the old style of offense. Has nothing to do with the start of this season.

I think it's still a matter of what fits the personnel.

IMO, the athletes we have right now would not have been effective in the old style offense.

Your enjoying the old style of offense because right now the spread isn't looking so hot. However, if this was last year after the OK State game or Dixon in his senior season, I bet you'd be talking about how much you love the spread (compared to the style we used to run).

And you obviously don't remember the 5-6 season we had with Clemens before we implemented the spread. Bad, boring season. Run the spread the next season with Clemens and we go 10-1.

Now you may actually like our previous style of offense over the spread, but personally I think you are getting success mixed up with the type of offense we run. I think you miss those players and the fantastic seasons we had with them rather than the type of offense we ran...

I bet Ed Dickson would have. Probably would have improved his draft number quite a bit in the old system :) Just kidding but it seems like it should be a crime to waste such a talented young mans college career. We use to be a tight end pipeline to the nfl. Dickson will be drafted, but imo he might be our most talented tight end ever.
