It's unfortunate that his future will be subject to the same morons that drafted a bunch of unknown QBs over Graham Harrell.

Graham Harrell is not a pro QB...simply as that.wheaton4prez wrote:It's unfortunate that his future will be subject to the same morons that drafted a bunch of unknown QBs over Graham Harrell.

And Julian Edelman is?
Harrell is the NCAA's Division I all-time touchdown leader. Throwing touchdowns is valuable in the NFL. Simple as that.

No its not. I usually agree with you and I think that Harrell should have gotten a chance but he was a system QB simple as that if TD's in college get you to the NFL then Timmy Chang, Kliff Kingsbury would all be pro bowlers.

It doesn't matter what 2 of them (team scouts) says or thinks. He just has to catch the eye and convince 1 of them. They struggle agreeing in their own war room much less across the league.. He just has to REALLY stay in shape and bring his A game to the meat market. My meaningless wild guess is he goes late 5th or 6th round if he puts the effort into it.

Then Dixon won't be a good QB in the NFL nor any other current Oregon QB's because they are all considered system QB's.

Hate to be a downer but none of the Oregon QBs are very good in the NFL so far. Plus Harrell went to a few NFL camps and was unable to get onto a team. He wasn't NFL quality, just like most of the Heisman winners from the past 20 years.

Re: Blount assessment
True. Doing well in college doesn't guarantee that you will do well in the NFL. However, it significantly increases the odds that you will. Enough so that Harrell is, beyond reasonable doubt, more likely to be a touchdown maker than Julian Edelman from Kent State. I think we agree. I'm not saying that Harrell was guaranteed to do well. Just that his resume from college was outstanding compared to a whole slew of other guys that were drafted.fecta23 wrote:No its not. The thing is, a lot of NFL programs are run by eccentric and/or old-school fans that made millions in some industry and bought a team. They don't always make rational sense and trend toward the old-school conservative vision of how football is supposed to look.
I believe that Harrell went to only one tryout with Cleveland. They said that he was quality. He picked up their program quickly, showed promise, etc. But, they already had 4 QBs on the roster, so they let him go.Legions wrote:Hate to be a downer but none of the Oregon QBs are very good in the NFL so far. Re: Blount assessment
With the QB issues many teams are having right now in the NFL, nobody is going to pass on a QB that could help their program. Especially with how Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco did last year, being rookies and all. If there was a team that thought Harrell could help them they would have taken him.

You're making a leap in logic.
Teams choosing not to give Harrell a shot does not demonstrate that Harrell could not help them as a QB.

Re: Blount assessment
And you're making the assumption that 31 teams, with millions of dollars involved in a sport, teams of scouts that look at hundreds of hours of tape on players that they feel could help their teams win football games are actively refusing to give Harrell a chance because they don't like the spread/think he's a system QB/are too old school/whatever else. I mean, come on. If there is a player that can help you win football games, they are going to try and get him.

Re: Blount assessment
You just made the exact same leap in logic.
Thinking that a player can't help you win football games and not giving that player a shot is not demonstration that that player couldn't help a team win football games.
It doesn't take a team of scouts, millions of dollars or reviewing hundreds of hours of tape in order to understand that a quarterback who can throw well enough to score the most TDs in D-1 history is more likely to be an asset than QBs who played mediocre football in second-rate conferences. Which is why I called them morons.

Re: Blount assessment
Heres the Problem.
Until Harrell Gets a shot we will never know.
You guys might as well be arguing either side of a religious or political issue right now for all its worth.
He could be the next Kurt Warner. He could be the next Eric Klingler.
My unfounded opinion is it doesnt help that the system he was in produces 400 yd passing games like Michael Vick produces cold sores (allegedly).
He is probably better off going to the Canadian League where he can chuck the ball like he did at TTU.
the QB cream eventually rises to the top...This game is to violent and hard on qbs for it not to happen.

Re: Blount assessment
I'm not arguing whether or not he would do well in the NFL. I agree with you that we won't know unless or until he gets a shot.
My point is that Graham Harrell clearly demonstrated more reason to give him that shot than others that were drafted. If consistency, accuracy throwing the ball, performing under pressure, winning against solid competition, making good decisions, reading defenses, etc. are factors that are valuable in the NFL then the people who rated many of the QBs taken over Harrell must either be blind, ignorant or moronic.
