I'm worried about this game, but I'm willing to bet TCU fans are more worried then I am.

TCU wasn't even that impressive when they were fully healthy. I think our defense will play better than people expect (not hard to do) and we win 35-28.QuackininBama wrote:I'm worried about this game, but I'm willing to bet TCU fans are more worried then I am.

Wow I looked at their schedule. Barely scraped by Minnesota, Texas Tech, K State and freaking Kansas.
Then again, fully healthy we almost lost to Washington, ASU, and OSU.

Hey y'all. Figured We would come over for some convo and ball busting before the game.
We are excited about this game, and feel like we match up well with y'all. Should be a fun one to watch. To touch on a few things I've read in the first couple posts...
1) we aren't scared. Excited because this is a good match up with national attention (lots of talking heads calling it the most exciting non-NY6 bowl this year... And If not that, we'll at least have the best dressed teams. Thanks Nike!)
2) Boykin will be 100% by game time. Very good for us because that guy is (I'm biased but several coaches have said this) the best player in college football this year, and easily the most important to his team. Our O really struggled when he wasn't around (doesn't help that we have a SR walkon and RS FR backing him up)
3) we haven't been healthy all year, so there's really no full strength for you to measure off of this season. We started the year missing around 6 starters due to injury, and the injuries just piled on. We got to a point where 20 players on our 2 deep have missed time due to injury... Pretty nuts. We've played 30 freshman this year, several of whom got significant PT and some started. I really think this was Coach P's greatest coaching job to date... Seems crazy that we won 10 games again.
I've seen several "they don't play defense" comments, which is laughable. Coach Patterson is possibly the greatest defensive mind in the game today (Saban up there as well). Our league is an incredibly offensive-oriented league, so it really is not so much that there's no defense as it is that the offenses are great. I'm excited to see how our D handles y'alls up tempo fast offense. Just don't think we aren't prepared for it, bc our defense practices against it every day.
My prediction for the game is both teams around 30-45 or so range. Looks like the initial betting lines are just barely in our favor. I'm gonna say TCU wins a good one 41 - 34. Although, I wouldn't mind us coming out like we did in the Peach Bowl last year and running a train over the Ducks. That ain't gonna happen though.
Hope to meet any of y'all down in SA and have a beer or 20. Looking forward to this one!

Also, I was sad to see Scott Frost leave y'all. Not sure what everyone's perception of him was, but I grew up in Nebraska so I've always been a SF fan.

Welcome to the board. This will be one of the more exciting bowl games this season so I don't think fans will be disappointed. Seems Oregon and TCU were in the same boat with all the injuries to the QB and other key contributors. As for the defense comment, I think it's only been a handful of people talking bad about TCU's defense while most other realize how good Patterson's defenses have been the past few years. It's just that their potent offense really overshadows their defense.TCU J-Sauce wrote:Hey y'all. Figured We would come over for some convo and ball busting before the game.

While he could frustrate fans with his playcalling at times, many fans still think very highly of him and view him as a big loss for the team as they get ready for the bowl game. It'll be interesting to see what Oregon's offense looks like without him gameplanning during bowl preparations and calling plays during the game. Helfrich is expected to be calling the plays but we have no idea what it'll look like since he's never done it during his Oregon tenure as Chip called the plays when he was OC and then turned over the playcalling duty to Frost when he became HC.TCU J-Sauce wrote:Also, I was sad to see Scott Frost leave y'all. I'm pretty pumped for this game, and to motivate myself, I looked up several videos of ducks eating frogs on youtube.
After watching several videos like this, I am convinced that the ducks will prevail in the Alamo bowl.

A slimy frog is one thing, but a horned lizard (aka horned frog) is a whole other ballgame. I'm not sure many things would want to eat a prickly horned lizard.Phalanx wrote:I'm pretty pumped for this game, and to motivate myself, I looked up several videos of ducks eating frogs on youtube.

They shoot blood out of their eyes when threatened which is a pretty cool defense mechanism, IMO.greenyellow wrote:A slimy frog is one thing, but a horned lizard (aka horned frog) is a whole other ballgame. Okay, I looked up horned frog, AKA 'Horny Toad'. I think this is like the Hawaii football team renaming themselves the 'Rainbow Warriors' because the 'Rainbows' didn't sound tough enough. Anyway, here are a few things I found out:
"The Texas horned lizard currently is listed as a threatened species in Texas"
This game is in Texas, right? So far, so good for the Ducks.
"When threatened, their first defense is to remain still to avoid detection."
This gets better and better! I know our defense is not great, but eventually, they will detect the Horny Toad players if they lie still long enough.
"If approached too closely, they generally run in short bursts and stop abruptly to confuse the predator's visual acuity"
Perfect! Hopefully the 'short bursts' are less than 10 yards.
"If a predator tries to take it by the body, the lizard drives that side of its body down into the ground so the predator cannot easily get its lower jaw underneath."
They tackle themselves? This is going to be easier than I thought.
Based on this new data, I feel certain the ducks will win by multiple touchdowns.

Anybody know if Doctson will play in this game?
Edit: Just read that it's undecided. Could come back from a wrist injury, could not.
It's cool beating teams at full-health, but frankly, I think Doctson is arguably the best player in the country. History rarely remembers who played anyway, so I would be perfectly fine if Doctson stayed on the sidelines for this one.
