Alan, The problem is its a 60 minute game. Once in a while the defense has to step up and cover. The numbers speak for themselves this year. Last in everything defensively and Oregon still won 9 games. Bad things happen sometimes and Pellum never really stepped up when it was needed.
Lockie is bad, Brenner had a tough go, but the other side HAS to step up once in awhile. The talent is there, the guy that led didn't get the job done-he's gone with good reason.

He's a young, inexperienced kid that got thrown into a tough situation. As bad as everyone else is hurting, I feel worse for him.
As much as we all love the game of football, when it comes right down to it, it's still a game. I hope that no one would say or do anything foolish like that.
I remember a guy named Horoniss Grasu that had a bout of low snapping just as bad as this. Seems like he turned out OK. I made a comment in the thread earlier that his sister Liz could do as well, in the heat of the moment. I wish I hadn't made that comment.
Pellum on the other hand, should gracefully retire tonight. Take his PERS retirement and live a good life. At halftime I FB messaged a friend saying I was having a nightmare thinking back at how good our D made a very poor OSU offense look in the Civil War this year. I truly thought they learned from that but I was so wrong.
Lubick needs to take some responsibility for this loss too. Throwing the ball twice towards the end of regulation gave TCU the time it needed to tie the game up.
VA went out and we knew Lockie sucked but he's what we have. Brenner was a bit of a surprise, but like I said it wasn't just a couple of bad snaps it was close to at least 50% of them. The D was not even playing the second half, I'm not supporting DP, but I'm not joining the rants calling for his head....... Let things shake out.... But he's probably gone, I just see any reason to lynch him on this board.
I feel so badly for Doug Brenner. I know he feels 100x worse. I said it in another thread, but somehow, someway, he got a case of the yips tonight where he could not do a routine play in which he's done a million times before. It happens. I remember watching Chuck Knoblauch getting the yips trying to make a leisurely toss to first base from second, yet he couldn't; it was all mental. Helf has to recognize this and make a change. In the post-game interview, Helf said he didn't even think about making a change. That's stubborn coaching. Another OL was more than likely trained as a backup center and should have been substituted, so let's not put this all on Brenner.

Pisarcik and Hunt are said to be able to play center so you have to wonder if they're that bad to not even warrant a look.
Oregon was just a walking MASH unit up front as Johnstone, Pierson, and Hegarty were all out of the game with injures by OT. Add in VA and Stanford and it's no wonder that the offense struggled like it did.
Ok, I understand the defense was TERRIBLE second half and Pellum definitely deserves some anger. However, we have to hold the defensive players accountable too...starting with Chris Seisay. That was the worse, I mean the worse performance by a collegiate DB I have ever seen smh. His coverage was bad, his tackling was worse than bad, and even when he was close his ball skills were worse than the worse bad! Tyson Coleman played a good game but made some bad mistakes down the stretch. CAN WE GET SOME MIDDLE LINEBACKERS PLEASE!!! I like Joe Walker, but he is out of place way too many times. He's not gap discipline at all...and he's the better of our MLB's smh. Privot can't set the edge, he gave up a touchdown to the TCU QB demonstrating that. These are all things players should hold themselves accountable for because I'm sure Pellum goes over these things in practice. I think we need a new scheme. I'm not a fan of our 3-4. I love the players we recruit to be our studs/OLB's but overall we get no pressure on the QB w/o blitzing in that scheme. The problem is we don't have the secondary to run anything else. 3-4 hides alot of our deficiencies in the back end and we are still terrible back there smh. Sorry group I'm just venting right now lol. I'm not happy about being in the record books for this reason. By the way, I love Charles Nelson, the kid is a Floridian like me and is very talented. However, he had a bad game too by his standards. He made so good plays I expect him to make weekly but he seemed lost at safety and the fumble really hurt us too.
Yes good post, I think part of the problem with at least Nelson and Colman was fatigue, Siesay just played poorly. I hate seeing a tackler trying to knock down the runner by their hit, they need to wrap up and tackle. Siesay seemed to be bouncing off the runner more than tackling.
