However, needlessly throwing 40-45 around like it accurately represents Taggart as a coach is ludicrous. Mark Helfrich's record may be far better, but look at the trajectory of their records: Taggart's has gone up. That should speak volumes, and is opposite of Helfrich's. He seems tough minded and likable. I can see him being a great recruiter and motivator.

We have to give him some time. A knee-jerk reaction claiming this is a terrible hire is not warranted by any facts we can look at. Yes, his defenses weren't great, but how many group of 5 defenses are good? How many G5 teams have great offenses and defenses at the same time? It doesn't happen.

I like Taggart's ability to adapt his offense, and his combination of zone and gap schemes. Give the man a chance. Who had heard of Chip when he was hired as OC? Who thought Altman was a great hire? That doesn't ensure Taggart will follow their successes, but it is certainly something to consider.

I'm excited to see the spring game, and I'm excited to see who Taggart hires at DC.

Go Ducks!!

Actually, his defense only gave up exactly 28 points per game last year. Not great, but certainly not awful, especially considering that the played Florida State, Temple, UCF, Navy and a couple other Bowl bound teams. They also beat Syracuse on the road.

Regarding his 40-45 record, both jobs he's held have been complete rebuilding projects. If you remove the first 2 years from each his overall record is 25-11.

In this scenario he's coming to a program that's already loaded with offensive talent, so he's gonna score a lot of points. If he can just improve the defense back to top-50+ form then the Ducks should be flying high again. I do think it's going to take a couple years, though.

We have to be patient and give the guy a chance.

Although I wanted to recapture that magic of Chip, I am quite happy that Taggert was chosen in lieu of Chip. He isn't flashy and fake like PJ Fleck, he's authentic and talented. I think he's going to be a great recruiter with ties to two of the best recruiting grounds: Florida and California.

Wasn't someone here going to "s*** a brick" if we hired Taggart?

Give Taggart a chance. There are a lot of big names saying he's a fantastic hire, one of the most underrated coaches in the country, and a fantastic recruiter. The way he turned USF around was no small feat, and players and coaches speak very highly of him.

Personally I'm excited to have Taggart. Ducks could've done MUCH worse.

Taggart has done something twice that Helf never has: Built two different programs, in utter disarray at the time of his hiring, into winners in a short amount of time.

What Jim Leavitt did at USF was far more impressive.

He was also there for how much longer than Taggart? Leavitt built that program from the ground up and then left it in shambles the way he left. USF was a dumpster fire when Taggart got there.

Look at what he did at WKU. Hell, he did such a good job that Bobby Petrino was able to leapfrog back to Louisville off of what Taggart built there.

Fleck is undefeated and playing in the Cotton Bowl. I have no idea what was so bad about him we couldn't even interview him but his record stands by itself. I definitely think we missed the boat with this one but time will tell.

What is strange to me is it sounds like Nike was the one that made the call that we couldn't interview Fleck. I guess they don't want an adulterer as the face of their program, regardless of his coaching ability?

My source just said Chip is officially back!
It will be announced at Autzen press conference tomorrow afternoon!

With all the job openings that were out there, the fact that Fleck didn't get any of them speaks volumes if you ask me. In fact it doesn't even sound like he was given a chance to interview for most of them.
