Just read up on him, he didn't play football his senior year due to Baseball commitments. There is an old article on him on rivals from 8/23/08

And that brings us back to a question I posed some time ago... Why have the coaches apparently moved away from the smaller statured WR prospects? Guys like Parker and Howry were once the bread and butter around here.

This seems a little 'out of the blue' because I haven't seen anything about him in months. I remember seeing about him back in the summer (that 40 time really stands out) scout had him rated as a 4-star and around the #20 WR. I wonder what happened. Did he have a poor senior year or was there a fear he'd opt for the baseball draft instead? His JR year stats are pretty good. Almost 20 ypc. It makes me wonder if the coaches had been in contact with him the entire time or if it's just someone throwing out a name on a message board.

The reason for bigger receivers is what is demanded of them as blockers is my guess.

Braxton looks great (speed wise) and his ability to play baseball (at a high level) shows he's a great athlete, so he would be a great pick for Baseball and Football!

And that brings us back to a question I posed some time ago... Why have the coaches apparently moved away from the smaller statured WR prospects? Guys like Parker and Howry were once the bread and butter around here.

2 reasons based only on opinion:

1. Oregon is getting interest from much higher rated talent then back when Howry and Parker were recruited. Bigger WR's tend to be higher rated because smaller WR's have to make up for their "lack of stats" with speed.

2. Oregon runs the spread option now. Howry and Parker were recruited into the pro style offense. Spread offense WR's have to be able to block downfield with reckless abandon... see Jason Williams. That guy scored more TD's for other players than he ever did for himself.

There still seem to be times when a pure possession type receiver is desireable... especially in light of the sheer numbers of dropped passes on critical 3rd and 4th down situations the last 2 seasons.
