1981 Sophomore Draft Report

[Zyme]

Going into the sophomore year you begin to see how players will develop and play long term. Whereas the top of the draft became some of the top contributors for their teams, a few gems fell into the late lottery and into the 2nd. So far there really have not been any true implosions, many in the later lottery really did not get to the point where they can be regular contributors. I think it's safe to say that the Nets won this draft and its not close. They have two starters and one solid rotation without having a to 4 pick. 7 Players changed teams from the first, mostly in the latter half of the 1st round.

What can you say, he lived up to the hype. Thomas has likely set the mold for point guards going forward. While he could still work on his turnovers, his steals and overall defense more than make up for this deficiency.

You look at him you would think he would be able to pour it in. This has not happened as yet. There is still plenty of time, his turnovers are great and his shooting percentages are great. Developing but looks still primed for a breakout ere long

He looks tailor made to dominate from the SF position and 5.4 reb is nothing to sneeze out, 14 ppg is unspectacular. He has a deadly outside shot but really needs to either take control in his own right regardless of other factors or perhaps find a system that will cater to his well rounded game.

Buck is a rebounding machine. He leads his team in rebounding as the anchor to the prolific Carroll. He isn't asked to do too much but he still manages 14.5 ppg. His FT shooting needs work badly, but the only thing that will be limiting is his ability to score. His rebounding will find him a team for a decade.

One of a handfull in a wave of forward that last couple of years who made the switch to the SF position from the post. He is one of the anchors on the New Jersey squad that has shown flashed of being dangerous and making deep playoff runs. His defense really shines through here and his shooting % is very solid.

Solid all around contributer. Is no superstar by any means but he is efficient finishing at the rim and his 7 reboundings as SF will keep him employed for years to come. Needs to work on his FT shooting as it is very average

Efficient, very low turnovers are the words of the day but again there is a mold. Biggest problem holding this dynamic guard back from truly going from starter to star would be his midrange game. I just isn't there to get him to that next level.

Really worked to improved his overall game, but this came at the cost of his rebounding, a sore blow to be sure. He has put his mark as one of the most tenacious rim protectors in the league.

He has a great outside and midrange game and helps to spread the floor for his side. The problem is he really nothing much else I can say here. His one trick is really good trick. Probably would do better as a 6th man scorer off the bench.

Great scorer off the bench for the Wolves. Not going to win the game himself, but his high-release jumper is unblockable and he can put a few from behind the arc when he actually spots his feet.

The right player at the right time to the right team. This unheralded Euro took the league by storm and has been one of the scoring lynchpins for his team's playoff runs. While Corblain has an argument solely for being drafted in the 2nd round, this big man really has to be considered the steal of the draft.
