5 star QB Dante Moore trending to UO? Edit: NOOOOOO!!

There really aren't many prep QBs they could take at this point since most P5-quality ones are already committed elsewhere as there's only one uncommitted guy in the top-50 QB on 247Sports' rankings. The only QB they could legitimately circle back to is Gabarri Johnson, a 4* QB out of Tacoma who's currently committed to Missouri. There were rumors from JHop that they checked in on Baylor commit Austin Novosad but it's likely too late there. If they do lose Moore, they're going to hit the portal hard for one.

They’re definitely in a hard spot, but absolutely need a prep guy. Most transfers are doing so due to lack of playing time, so it’ll be hard to convince a guy to come in and sit. Then there’s the chance that Thompson transfers, which would leave the Ducks with perhaps 1 scholarship QB. That’s a dangerous spot to be in. I know they’re behind the 8 ball on guys, because Moore was a sure thing all season, but they have to at least start reaching out to guys with offers and see if they can get anyone to hold off until February to sign.

JHop said Moore would have already announced but found out UCLA was pursuing other QBs.

Re: NIL stuff, JHop keeps saying that NIL isn’t a factor but Chad Simmons, the ON3 national guy, said it’s playing a big role in an article today.

And other sources have said the NIL deals are basically the same so no one really knows including Simmons.

UCLA is an odd choice for the factors previously stated. Playing time does not look automatic at UCLA either. If Oregon is unwilling to play the NIL game in his recruitment it tells me two things: 1. We feel confident in a 2024 QB and a bridge transfer QB, or 2. We are not willing to compete in the NIL market (which I understand has been the theme). Look, I rarely post but am here because I’m concerned with the staff’s inability to close in recruiting and the administration’s inability to get us in the B1G, and give Lanning the NIL support needed. Now, this could all just be a misguided kid and/or maybe we land Hicks and Proctor. I will reserve total judgment until Wednesday.

Misguided is a fair assessment. I am guessing there is relatively limited or no insight into what Lanning or the ‘administration’ are actually doing and the complexity of conference realignment is something very few of us have insight into.

Imagine how great it would be if we could be flies on the wall in Lanning’s and Mullins’ offices.

Idk, he may be the most college ready high school prospect. I’m sure there’s competitive schools out there who could utilities him from day 1. Don’t blame him!

There are two QBs that Oregon was looking at in the portal. Schlee and Card. Both are ballers and as a coach if you get a shot at proven college talent at the QB position, you take it, even if it costs you a HS recruit.

Schlee is a great pick up for UCLA. There is a 95% chance he will win that starting job. Notice how UCLA is not concerned about how that impacts Moore??

BTW…Card was in Eugene on Wednesday and Thursday, so that is a great sign. He should be the No1 priority on Oregon’s recruiting list right now. He completed 70% of his passes with almost a 9 yard average. He threw for almost 1000 yards in essentially 4 games. He doesn’t turn the ball over. He had only 2 picks that last two years. He was rated one of the best athletes in the 2020 class. He also played receiver his sophomore year and dude can kill you with his legs. He was 1 point short of beating Alabama last year.

If Card wants to come, you take him, even if it costs you Moore.
