5* Edge Jordan Burch Edit: QUACK!

Post by jimmy12 »

I am hearing (JC Shurburtt) that Jordan Burch is likely heading to Oregon. South Carolina tried to keep him with an increased NIL and he is possibly coming to Oregon (JC's prediction)

https://247sports.com/Player/Jordan-Bur ... ol-204350/

This is MASSIVE.

So clearly Lanning knows him from his time at Ga

Would be a huge get. I know it’s frowned upon but if everyone else is engaging in obvious tampering I’m glad we’re willing to play the game too.

Free agency w/ tampering?

Would be a huge pickup.

Lanning listed as his primary recruiter to GA when he was coming out of high school on the 247 page

Why do you assume tampering? Honest question

Any time a player has a clear destination before he’s even entered the portal you have to assume there’s been some back door conversations/deals happening. Same with Evan Williams.

Every guys USC gets, for example, doesn’t go through any sort of recruitment process. They enter the portal then almost immediately announce for USC.

Yuck. I really hope we are not tampering with other team's players. This perpetual free-agency thing is not going to end well.

I have no problem with it as long as we are not in violation of NCAA rules to the point of facing any penalty. NIL has completely changed the recruiting process and I will assume with the class we did and are signing Oregon has enough pockets to spread some wealth. Our NIL offers may be spreading to other players and they are contacting Lanning?

My guess at this time is that his previous relationship with Lanning is the lynch pin here.

I hope there is no tampering either. However until the NCAA figures all this out there will be many interpretations of the rules.

I don't care if everyone here likes it. It's a terrible look. Stealing existing players who did not first enter the transfer portal, e.g. tampering, is universally considered a corrupt act, and we will never hear the end of it from opposing fan bases. Aside from this, it will also affect our team if anyone with more money wants our players. Every professional sport I can think of has rules against this practice. It will end in fans losing interest in their teams, rosters suddenly being decimated, and possibly football programs ending if teams run out of money, and bowl games becoming even more meaningless than they already are. Think about teams like OSU who have a good year once in awhile because some coach was really good at finding diamonds in the rough or coaching players up better than they do at the bigger programs? If another team can just swoop in and steal those players, then the hope of ever winning is eliminated, and fan bases are at risk of just drying up. I'm having a tough time seeing how that is a good thing for college football. I don't want to win that way.

You're assuming a whole lot here. Unless you have inside knowledge it seems like a pretty major accusation.

You refer to it as 'stealing' based on one tweet from a recruiting insider???

I think some people forget that a lot of these transfers are occurring after the players have decided to look around but haven't done so officially. A lot of times they have previous contact info for coaches they've dealt with in the past and they or people around them will initiate the contact with potential new landing spots.

Once a player submits their request to enter the transfer portal it can take up to 48 hours for their information to be uploaded to the transfer database. This gap is what likely cases all the “tampering” allegations to rise. The player is free to make contact with other programs during this time.

Great point, and could explain why some of these programs (like USC mentioned above) haven't been penalized so far.
