I think Lanning needs to call an emergency meeting with Terry tonight and basically say if the OLine doesn’t improve drastically going forward you’re gone. Like others have said, there were minor issues but ultimately the OLine play was a giant glaring issue. If we traded OLine play with our FCS opponent the final score is probably like 45-7.
Lol, the OL looked fine under Terry’s tutelage last year. Because of one bad game in game 1 with a new OL his job should be on the line? Also, I think you mentioned Gabriel giving Prukop vibes. How is that comparable? Gabriel has extensive experience in D1 and has shown to be a good QB there, while Prukop was an FCS guy with no experience against top programs. I understand it was an ugly game and you overreact to every bad thing that happens with the team, but tonight may be some of your best work.
I said multiple times the tackles were great last year but the guards were not, and again it showed when Bucky hurt his ankle and the interior run blocking struggled, and don’t act like the procedure penalties from the last season weren’t badly timed and killed multiple drives that would’ve been successful. What we witnessed tonight was an all time bad performance from an Oregon OLine, including a major regression from someone that was a solid tackle last season. I knew Oregon’s OLine could be a major hindrance but I never envisioned them this bad. If you think that Terry still has a job as Oregon’s OLine coach after this season if the OLine plays like that all season then you’re only fooling yourself, heck I bet there’s a good chance Lanning already met with Terry tonight and told him that performance was unacceptable. With decent OLine that game is over in the 3rd quarter.

The OLine this year may end up being the safety position last season, and when we faced an elite Husky passing attack we couldn’t beat them. This year we face two elite DLine groups in Ohio State and Michigan and if the OLine plays like that we won’t just lose, but might get shut out.

Well at least we're past the "National Champions" BS for a while. Idaho is a really good FCS team. We're not FCS... Hope we play better against Boise. O line needs work. We DON'T have a deep threat. Work to do Danimal!

Edit: Nice to not have a yellow flag on EVERY damn deep pass play! RIP PAC-12 "refs". Edit 2: At some point Lanning is going to have to learn what a dumb decision 4th and long in your end of the field really is. Dial down the Testosterone a bit Dano!

My next day thoughts, even if they weren’t ask for, lol. Like most have said, O-line needs to improve and I am hopeful it does with returning injured players and tweaks. QB I thought played great with what he had with the O-line. The DB’s need work, at least one very dumb PI. Lanning said Idaho played well and I thought so also, I am curious to see how they do this season….. how good are they? I am looking forward to the Boise St game but with a level of concern. It is great to have college football back!

Everyone here has forgotten one HUGE thing....

We are in the Big10 now, the narrative is different....

We didn't play poorly, that Idaho team is way better than anyone expected. Watch out for them! It takes a real team to play like that against a quality team like Oregon and the B1G!!!

Honest question-why do you put so much stock in what Hythloday says?

This person is an anonymous key board warrior and there's nothing wrong with that ,but the only opinions that matter are the guys who coach. If this Hythloday person had all the answers I'm sure every college coach in America would have him on speed dial.

Oregon has a cadre of people who’s sole job is to breakdown tape and you can rest assured Dan and Co were in the HDC late last night and early this morning analyzing tape.

So I'll put my trust in them

Watched the game late on DVR. We looked way too much like Iowa.

I said last year that Stein was a stat padder who failed to show up in big games. Now he's failing to blow out FCS schools. The O-line is an obvious weak link.

The defense looked solid overall. Especially while Bassa was in the game. The offense put them in bad situations. Especially going for it on fourth down from their own 37.

Everybody loves Lanning and acts like he's already won 2 titles already. I don't get it. He's recruits well and is very charismatic. The offense is trending in the wrong direction despite supposedly outstanding recruiting.

We got the USC-Texas-Notre Dame off-season national champion treatment from the media. Falling flat on face would be a bad look.

I wish Duck fans would keep in mind that Oregon's football program is strong enough to make mediocre coaches look very good. I suspect this is doubly true in the NIL era where we are outspending everyone outside of Ohio St and Georgia. If we don't earn one of the 11 playoff spots open to P4 teams, Lanning's seat should get hot. Stein already needs to go.

One bad game for the offense isn't a trend.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

LOL- Oregon’s program is strong enough to make mediocre coaches look good?

You might want to rethink what you said because its beyond being anywhere close to rational.

Would you prefer Cristobal or Taggart? Maybe PJ Fleck? Helfrich?

Did you miss the part where Cristobal and Taggart got poached by major programs? Their success at Oregon convinced other schools they were better than they actually were. You are going getting fooled by Lanning in the exact same way.

And how did Taggart do at that ‘major program ‘? Mario hasn't exactly set the world on fire at Miami either.

We get it, you don't like Dan. Fair enough but to say his predecessors were better is comical. Mario had a generational talent at QB and couldn't figure out how to.use him. Mario was so inept at game management and scheming it was laughable. Willie was a straight up liar and his coaching acumen left a whole lot to be desired.

Mario wouldn't be at Miami if John Ruiz were not related to Mario’s wife and the pundits and fan base in Miami are still not totally sold.

I appreciate the insight, but I’m willing to stick with the OC that led an offense to top 2 in the nation last year in yards and points per game. There don’t seem to be many upgrades from that point. It appears that fans believe offenses should never struggle, and scoring 30+ points in a game indicates not showing up. Even with the best OCs, offense isn’t always to come easy. It turns out every now and then opposing teams can successfully come up with schemes to help mitigate what an offense is trying to do.

For the most part, the offense moved the ball fine yesterday. It was ultimately the penalties that unraveled a number of drives, and that’s something that can be cleaned up. There are certainly areas they can improve in, and I’m sure they’ll be working tirelessly on it over the next few weeks. If the defense continues to play that well, the offense will have time to iron some things out, and won’t have to be perfect.

lol cause he knows more than all of us on this forum about football except for maybe StevensTechU and Duck07, and I don’t know football, and I enjoy duck podcasts and hearing duck football info. I’m a casual fan, and I as a fan am curious if the OLine issues are correctable or if play will look like that all season. I’m not expecting him to fix anything nor am I trying to say he knows more than the coaches but I am curious of this thoughts.
