Unfortunately, if it's Oregon who loses, I think our resume is too good to be leapfrogged by 1-loss Penn State, 1-loss Indiana, 2-loss ACC champ, or whatever comes out of the mess in the southeast.
A thought...why don't they re-seed after round 1? The number one team should face the lowest seed left after the first round.. As of last week, (the following all reflect rankings, not seeds) if #14 BYU beats #2 tOSU, #12 Boise State would get #14, while Oregon would play either #6 or #7. If #10 Georgia beats #4 Penn State, then it would match up #8 Miami vs #10. The #1 team should have the easiest path (at least from a rankings standpoint), but this system sets up to harder on the #1 team, if there are upsets in round one, which there will be. Seems like an oversight.

I don't think you're wrong and maybe that'll happen. Seems like it could be somewhat common* to have the 5 seed be better than 3 & 4.

After all the goofiness of this first-year tournament, it seems to me that the folks who cooked it up must have been drunk or don't watch a lot of different teams. Not a lot of thought, IMHO, went into this clusterf**K. I agree with the re-seeding argument. I hate to say this, but I'm not convinced that Oregon could beat OSU in a what is arguably a home game in Indianapolis. They have a big chip on their shoulder and are rounding into form at just the right time. Yeah, I know. I'm going to lose my Duck card for that. However, as many have pointed out, IF we lost that game, I don't see us falling any farther than #5. A home game against a 12th ranked team (Clemson, Alabama [YES!!!] or Arizona St) and then a rematch with Boise State? HUCK THE FUSKIES!!!

Based in this scenario, being #5 may be the preferential spot to be in for this structure.
- Play the lowest ranked team in the tourney in round 1 at home,
- Then play the 4th ranked conf. champion (Boise St. for now) and most likely the lowest ranked remaining team, at a neutral/bowl location.
- Then get #1 (or a team that beat #1) in the Semis

Compare this to being #1
- Play 7/8 (which currently are both top 10 ranked teams) at a neutral/bowl location,
- Then have to most likely play #5 (who is the top ranked team without a conf. championship, so could be #1 vs #2...and will have a ton of momentum coming off two wins) with the winner moving on to the championship game.

Benefits to being number 1 are the bye and one less game to win in order to capture the title. However, I'd rather play two easier games than have a bye (although, if a team is facing injuries, they may feel differently) to get ready for a gauntlet. I'm sure this can work out different ways in future years, but the #1 seed won't get the proper path IMO with this current structure.

I’ve been feeling this way too but I think the Husky game could be very telling. If this team really did need a break and if they look like they did in the first half against Illinois I’ll feel confident Oregon can get it done. However if Oregon comes out looking like they did against Maryland and Wisconsin, particularly on offense, then I’ll be concerned Stein and Gabriel have been figured out and it’ll be tough for Oregon to make it far in the postseason.

Don't discount the impact of Gabriel having his favorite go to target Tez back. IMHO losing him is the root of all our offensive struggles the last few weeks since he went down at Michigan. I think Oregon is going to beat the Fuskies. Not sure they will cover but pretty close to the current line on EsecPN -19.5

And regarding the postseason and bye weeks, if the Ducks end up losing on the evening of December 7 and fall to the #5 seed, they would still have the next week off before hosting one of the first round playoff games on December 20 or 21.

This year and next year are supposed to be experimental. They'll look at the formatting again after next season and make adjustments.

Personally, I think that conference champions should get an automatic berth, but not a top four berth with a first round bye. That's just ridiculous!

I could also see the field being expanded from 12 to 16 teams.

There was a good article in USA Today about the size of the field that makes a strong argument for keeping the field at 12. That said, the Big 10 and southeast region conference are greedy and will want multiple teams guaranteed in, so it'll be going to 16 almost assuredly.

I don't want to play Ohio State only because those are slobber knocker type games and were better saving those till the end.

That said, I absolutely expect our DL to cook in that game against their injured OL. Burch healthy with the additional experience gained from his absence paired with the knowledge we've beaten them before means I'm only worried about our offense under performing in a rematch.

If they get rid of first round bye's, then CCG's have to go.

“Just a hint though, actual duck fans don't call them 'zeros'.”

I know that, but for me the name “the zeros” is a point of respect and affection ~ I’ve always enjoyed following the DUX and have done so for a LONG time ~ sure I’m a Dawg fan but I grew up watching a lot of great DUX players and have always enjoyed following the team… going all the way back to all time great / memorable players like Bob Berry, Dan Fouts, Norv Turner, Mel Renfro and Bobby Moore… not to mention the last 20 years of remarkable players that have now long since built the zero’s into a great program. I’ve watched the Pac 6,8,10 and 12 and the Rivalry has always been a good one to observe.

I’m pulling for the Dux to win the championship this year and believe they have a real shot to do it… too bad they dont still have quite the depth at RB you have had in the last few years [imagine this team with Brooks and or Irving] but the offensive line is impressive i think and the defense is great if the back end can hold up and the coherence and overall talent is impressive. I’m impressed anyway and look forward to Oregon beating OSU yet again on the way to the playoffs. FCK OSU and Michigan too for that matter.

You forget about Jordan James, Noah Whittington, Jayden Limar and Jay Harris? Silly fuskie.

The best thing about Norval Turner was/is his middle name.
