You know how we know Alabama has fallen off? In most years in the Saban era, whether experienced or new, their QB would be in the top 10 for Heisman odds automatically. That's the power of being the QB on a team expected to play for the national championship. Neither Ty Simpson or Austin Mack, who will compete for the job, will be there. It's a new era, for sure.

A lot of it would depend on the new QB, but my Heisman fave is Jeremiah Smith. He should have won last season.

Definitely shouldn't have won last season. He's a great player, but his stats were nowhere near Heisman worthy. He didn't crack 1k yards in the regular season and only had 3 games where he eclipsed 100 yards. He turned it up in the postseason (minus the Texas game), but that doesn't factor in to the Heisman. Unless you're saying he would have won if he had a better QB this prior year, though with the amount of talent OSU had on offense, I just don't see him consistently getting enough touches to win it.

You're probably right about the touches. and he might not put up the greatest stats, which don't always show how great a player is, compared to another who might have better numbers. But I don't know a team who wouldn't trade their No.1 receiver, or RB, for Smith.

Its also difficult to quantify how defenses had to plan and adjust to covering Smith, resulting in fewer touches and yards for him but opening up the field for other receivers and RBs, while making Will Howard's job alot easier.
