Getting a bad feeling about this one with how recruiting is going right now, especially with rumors that Oregon is being outmaneuvered behind the scenes.

Ya Curtis and Cantwell sound more likely to pick Georgia than Oregon.

Starting to sound like Curtis' mom wants him close to home and that's where he's potentially leaning a day out. Also not feeling all that strong toward Lyons with SC likely leading for him now. Really hoping Oregon didn't outsmart themselves by allowing Jonas Williams to leave with barely any fight.UOducksTK1 wrote: Sun May 04, 2025 5:03 pm Ya Curtis and Cantwell sound more likely to pick Georgia than Oregon.

As expected, Curtis recommitted to UGA. Oregon has to push all their chips in on Ryder Lyons or circle back to Jonas Williams if they want a 2026 QB. Also, this likely means Cantwell is going to UGA as well since it was rumored they're kind of a package deal at this point.

5 star QB Jared Curtis: Georgia vs Oregon (Deciding May 5)
Something is seriously up with this coaching staff or NIL or something.
Feels like the 2000’s all over again when Oregon was every recruit’s second favorite school.

There's just not a lot of room in our QB room right now. Our eldest statesman are RS Sophomore's. And the two Freshman behind them, Moga and KJ, look extremely promising. I understand everyone is upset Oregon is missing out on prospects at the moment, but be logical with me for a second. We have 5* prospects who can't even crack the 2-deep across various positions. This is what happens when we recruit at a high level for multiple years. With the Portal now in play, playing time is now more prevalent than ever. Curtis probably took a look at that depth chart and knew he wouldn't see the field for 3 years. Sometimes, that's all there is to it. Time to go after Lyons or take a year off from QB recruiting so the classes can breathe a bit.

Fair points, but for most programs that want to be consistent national championship contenders true freshmen won’t start or even play for a while (unless you’re a freak like Jeremiah Smith), I guess the situation might be different with Georgia.DmoneyDuck wrote:There's just not a lot of room in our QB room right now. Now if as expected Oregon loses out on Jackson Cantwell and Iheanacho then I’m going full panic mode, I’m about 60% now.

Please explain why this logic doesn't pertain to Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, etc.DmoneyDuck wrote: Mon May 05, 2025 2:58 pm There's just not a lot of room in our QB room right now. I do wonder if something is happening on the NIL front, and if it is, is it that Oregon's funds are depressed or that others have successfully caught up.

QB is a position that's nice to get if you can, but absolute worst case scenario, there will always be talented QBs in the portal that you can plug and play. Curtis would have been nice, but he likely wouldn't have seen the field for multiple years. Not a lot of 5 star guys are sticking around that long these days without starting. Lyons may work out perfectly in that regard with his mission.

I would think that seeing the field sooner is a lot more likely at Georgia.bellsduck wrote: Mon May 05, 2025 3:26 pmPlease explain why this logic doesn't pertain to Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, etc.DmoneyDuck wrote: Mon May 05, 2025 2:58 pm There's just not a lot of room in our QB room right now. Isaac and Suke had this convo today on 1080 The Fan. Stats show over the last 10+ years, that the projected best in class HS QB has only worked about 10-15% of the time. Is it smart to throw $3-4M at a freshman that may prove to be not worthy, or ends up transferring in a year? Not a smart investment in this day and age. Ducks have played it correctly the last 3 years. No reason to mess with what has worked. Pay the proven transfer instead of the unproven freshmen. Ducks may end up with Curtis anyway down the road.

On its face, I agree. But what does the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th guy getting paid? You may be ponying up huge dollars for any in the top 10, and going outside of that is definitely a bit of a risk.Everythingsducky wrote: Mon May 05, 2025 6:50 pm Isaac and Suke had this convo today on 1080 The Fan.
