Dillon Gabriel and his path in Cleveland
I am curious of others thoughts about Dillon’s path, chances of success in Cleveland? His head to head with Sanders? Sanders future in the NFL? Sounds like Pickett is out soon, the Browns do have a veteran at QB although not a great one. I personally have always felt that Sanders talent was inflated by pops and the media, he is too entitled, so is why he had such a free fall in the draft. Does Dillon have the size and talent to be a long term QB like other Duck greats? Such as Herbert, Marcus, Bo (I know, just finished his rookie year but his future looks good)?

I personally worry that whoever wins that spot may also lose. Cleveland is not known for protecting their QBs careers.

Re: Dillon Gabriel and his path in Cleveland
The quick run down is that Dillon has a former OC in Kevin Stefanski as his HC. Probably one of the Top 5-7 teams he could have ended up at for his skillset too so its a great fit for system and player because if DG can win the quick and intermediate passing game consistently enough, it'll make his downfield shots easier but he's got to win the short and intermediate.
If I had to start a game tomorrow in Cleveland the QB order is likely Flacco, Pickett, Gabriel, Sanders and Watson(inactive).
My guess is that the Browns give Flacco a lot of rest in Training Camp, let Pickett take more of the QB1 reps and let Dillon and Shedeur fight it out.
Where Dillon's biggest problem is that this could be his 1-year to prove it in Cleveland or else they likely take another QB in the 1st round next year thanks to the extra draft picks. IF he can win the job and give that hope that he could be the guy, those extra picks could certainly rebuild the offensive roster.
As far as competing with Sanders, Shedeur will either grow up and stop being a child or else he won't have a long NFL career. Some of the Shedeur/Cam Ward draft training videos I've seen are pretty telling and also makes me understand why the Titans took Ward at #1 because he's taking things seriously. To that end, having Dillon around may be the best thing for Shedeur long-term as I won't be surprised if DG gets into coaching some day after he's done playing.

That team is such a mess. A bunch of QB's that are only going to be there for this year, but this year is probably the only opportunity Dillon will have to prove himself before Watson comes back and before the Browns take their forever quarterback in the next draft. It's too bad Seattle liked Milroe more - that feels like it would have been a much better situation. Oh well, maybe Gabriel is better than I think he is. I don't do well projecting Ducks named Dillon. I thought Mitchell would have an NFL career, and I thought Brooks' game would not translate well to the NBA. Wrong on both counts. The starting job in Cleveland is there to be won for this season; maybe he can pull it off. It feels like with a year to kill, the team picked Shedeur to draw ratings, whether he wins or loses. Dillon might be just a body for him to climb over at this point.

My understanding is that the Browns owner liked sanders, but held off on taking him. When he was still there in the 5th he told his staff to take him. With the videos I've seen, and just his overall play, sanders won't last long, and he'll likely fail to understand why. Gabriel strikes as a career backup, who will get spot starts here and there. Hopefully I'm wrong though

Re: Dillon Gabriel and his path in Cleveland
I was listening to a podcast a few days after the draft and 4 recently retired NFL players put it this way (paraphrasing)...
With Gabriel you get maturity and leadership. Qualities a QB must have to be a starting QB. He's a good game manager. His size and arm strength are borderline, but appear to be good enough. Very little opportunity to start in Cleveland.
With Sanders you get deep immaturity with zero leadership ability- he's never going to be a long-term starting QB. But he has arm strength. They were quick to say the NFL QB graveyard is full with strong armed idiots like Sanders. BUT, Dion is schmoozing the Browns owner and this will probably open a lot of opportunity for Sheduer would otherwise not get.

Shadeur going 100 in a 60 isn’t helping his case
