Week 5 Polls: Ducks up to #2 in both

College football rankings: Updated top 25 in Coaches, AP polls https://share.google/jIOBzaoylZKcTt47g

Given that Lanning is a voter in the coaches' poll, I wonder where he has the Ducks.

The fact that Oklahoma is #5 in the country says a lot about where things stand around the country. Good but not great defense and a single offensive weapon who is already hurt.

Hoping that the Sooners can go to Austin (where I figure College GameDay will show up on Oct 11) and knock off Texas in two weeks and thereby slightly lower the value of Ohio State's earlier home victory over the Longhorns.

The Red River Rivalry may be the most overhyped game given how OU is without Mateer and Texas hasn't looked like a top 10 team with Arch Manning. If anything, GameDay should really be at Indiana/Oregon that weekend since that will be a much better game.

Yeah, that would be great and the Indiana matchup is realistically probably the last game on the Ducks' schedule (after last week, of course) where GameDay could be present. And given that this week GameDay will be at Vanderbilt-Alabama, it could be argued that they wouldn't want to do the same conference two weeks in a row, with the RRR being another SEC matchup. That said, the RRR is sort of its "own thing," and I doubt the fact that it's technically another SEC game would stop ESPN College GameDay from showing up in Austin. But maybe with Mateer, who had been one of the early Heisman frontrunners, out, that could be enough to push GameDay to Eugene on October 11.

FWIW, Open is Oregon -14 in that game. Right now the odds makers are not seeing it as a close game.

It is wild how little Oregon is being talked about. If Ohio State and Oregon switched then the media would be drooling over Ohio State more than they already are for winning at an overhyped Washington team. I just listened to Rick Neuheisel on Dan Patrick and they literally didn’t even mention Oregon or Dante when discussing the best QB’s in college. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the #2 team, after an impressive win at the #3 team in one of the most hostile environments, be so under the radar. The media is basically ready to crown either Ohio State or Bama the national champions.

And I love it! Cause Dan is going to use this as fuel for the rest of the season and the players will be ready to prove something for the rest of the season!

Same feelings. Pretty crazy that Oregon controlled the game, on the road, against an experienced top 3 team and media members are having to basically remind themselves to mention Oregon post game. And at the same time, I'm happy they're #2 and not #1. Fuel to the fire.

It happened last year against Ohio State. I remember the NBC crew talking to Josh Pate and one of the commentators said “there’s a good chance Oregon and Ohio State will meet up for a rematch in the Big Ten championship game, if that happens, can Oregon win that game?” And Josh Pate stood there with a confused face and said “Oregon just won…” It truly is weird how little the media wants to talk about Oregon, I honestly don’t understand it, but yeah, it’s absolutely fuel to the fire, I couldn’t agree more.

The media ignores Oregon because they're essentially new blood, and not blue blood. Chip Kelly put them in the map, but the high powered offense is what was talked about, nobody ever actually gave them a real thought about winning a championship. Even when they lost to Auburn, you might think the game was a blowout of it gets brought up. New blood isn't liked, or respected by traditional media

The media and betting houses are sleeping on Indiana. This game will be a battle.

The Athletic is pushing Oregon pretty hard. Several articles hyping Dante for the Heisman.

LOL at the whining in this thread. Oregon is number two and Moore is the heisman favorite. These are the good old days.

Should Oregon be rated #1? Maybe, but Ohio State has two quality wins and would likely be favored over Oregon on a neutral field. What did being rated #1 get us last year?

Regarding whether the Ducks or tOSU should be #1, I guess it depends on how one defines a "quality" win. I don't think there can be any Q that the Ducks now have the highest quality win, going into Happy Valley and beating the #3 team. I can only guess that you're counting the win at UW as tOSU's second quality win, but I think that's questionable.

That said, I don't necessarily "mind" that the Ducks are at #2 right now, just that I think they have a little better argument for being #1 than tOSU does.
