1. Indiana is a good team in both sides of the ball
2. Dante didn’t look good at all minus the one long pass. Pressured yes but he was missing open receivers.
3. Not to involve Sadiq more is odd
4. Davidson(sp) was the only rb to run hard
5. Freshman dbs are gonna be good. Got beat and some pi penalties yes but I think they are just gonna get better
6. Team energy seemed way off from the start
7. Ducks need to refocus and get to work still a lot to play for.
8’. Not blaming them but I’ve seen better refs at a 2a high school game. Across the big 10 yesterday horrible officiating. Ohio state is good but damn their dbs got away with ALOT
9. Go Ducks

Great thoughts! I agree on all of them.

Something happened yesterday between GameDay and tipoff that dropped the emotion.

I think there was that initial adrenaline dump that usually happens to all football players during games somewhere BEFORE the game and for whatever reason we came out flat. Not flat like “we don’t care” or were taking Indiana lightly, flat like we wanted to and were trying to summon the energy in the tank but we couldn’t find where it was.

Go look at Indiana’s offensive stats for the season. We held them to 1/2 of their normal output through the final two ints and then we got gassed. Illinois has a serviceable defense and they put up 580 on Illinois. We held them to 1/2 of their rushing yards and if not for Mendoza’s scrambles they would have had under 100 yards. I realize 3 of his 6 were designed QB draws.

Lots of things to clean up and learn from.

Nothing fatal in this loss.

Folks need to take a deep breath and look at the big picture.

In 2 seasons, Dilly had 4 regular season losses, lost 1 conference championship (0-3 total to the Fuskys),won 2 bowl games. All losses were to top 25 ranked teams.
(20-4), (0-1), (2-0)

In 1 1/2 seasons, Stein has lost 1 regular season game (1-0 to the Fuskys), won 1 conference championship and lost 1 playoff bowl game. Both losses were to top 10 ranked teams.
(17-1), (1-0), (0-1)

This loss hurts less than blowing a game to a nobody team and could get us out of the extra Conference Championship game and the weeks of delay in the Playoff that a top seed gets you. There's lots to work on after going to the doctor and all of the remaining games should be very winnable.

Bottom line for me is we are still over performing based on preseason expectations for this young team and we still control our own destiny. Take care of business the rest of the way and hopefully we don't get hosed again in the playoff bracketing...

The thing
I don’t see duck fans acknowledging. This was the first time this year our offense, with 1 retiring starter,
Looked like we had just 1 returning starter.

Whoa, I thought it was 2 years... My bad.

I corrected the stats. I still think the record comparison makes the fire Stein crowd look a bit foolish.

Fair arguments about the Dilly vs Stein arguments but don’t act like personnel doesn’t matter, Stein had far more talented teams than Dilly had in his 1 year at Oregon.

Definitely fair to consider more moving parts beyond the OC's.

Eh, I remember you complaining multiple times about Dilly that season though. Further removed and following his success at ASU, people look at him more fondly than the comments reflected at the time. That’s not me slighting him, as I liked Dilly, just pointing out I saw similar complaints on the board about him that I see for Stein now. I also don’t think he was short on personnel on offense. The starters are nearly all in the NFL.

Nix
Bucky
Thornton
Franklin
Ferguson
4 of 5 OL (and a 5th in Conerly, who would rotate in on big packages).

I don’t think it’s fair to compare records for OCs. The defense was obviously a much bigger issue in 2022 than the previous couple of years, which impacted the records. That said, I think this offense is deeper than the Dilly one, but it’s also one that’s only returning 1 starter and much more inexperienced QB. Yesterday wasn’t pretty, but I’m not too concerned about it long-term. Good learning opportunity for a young team, and it’s not a season killer like it would have been a few years ago. Hell, we just saw OSU back their way into the playoff last year, and that clearly worked out for them.

This might not be the worst thing to happen to them. Happened early in the season, maybe they can avoid the B1G championship game, and honestly I still think the bye is a bit of a detriment with the extended layoff. Just need them to win out and get a home playoff game, and they’ll be in business.

Dilly drove me crazy at times, sometimes he just outsmarted himself, running crazy formation shifts on 3rd and 1 against an undersized DL, just go run the dang ball. That said, under Dilly felt like the offense moved much more efficiently and had more of an identity, plus he was excellent in the middle 8 which can be a very crucial part of the game. It was the consistency and identity that made me a fan of his offense, but at times he got too cute and as a result there were disastrous plays.

That’s where I am frustrated with Stein, constantly feels like he’s trying so many formations/packages and the offense is constantly stalling to implement them in the middle of a drive and it just removes any momentum they could have gained or did gain in previous plays. Just think there is no identity under Stein and he needs to try to do less and let his players play.

Falling apart against an average at best Oregon State team, was as bad as it gets. We went from being unstoppable, looking like we could be up 40 at half, to not being able to move the ball at all

I would like to point out Stein is thought of extremely well in football circles. It’s a results based, cutthroat whydfml business. If he sucked, he wouldn’t be in such demand.

- Chip drove a lot of the board crazy
(Helf gets a pass because Chip called plays)

- Frost drove a lot of the board crazy
- Lubick drove a lot of the board crazy
- Taggart calling his own plays frustrated us
- Arroyo drove a lot of us crazy but…
-…Moorhead got a pass because at that point we shifted blame to Mario being too conservative
- Dilly drove a lot of the board crazy at times. I remember people upset about him on here.

Sense a theme anyone?

I love the passion. I think it is fair to say at times we have held our OC’s to unreasonably high standards where if we step back and look at them we see they generally do an excellent job.
