Me too. I love Oregon and my heart will always be there, but it's just not for me anymore.

Arizona is the place to be. Sunshine 300 days per year!

Oh, and "Stand Your Ground" law. Everyone has the right to defend themselves if threatened. A lot of people carry sidearms, as well.

It sounds like we’re blaming politics/policy for rising housing prices, rather than supply and demand. Please explain, but in football terms, so as to keep this thread in bounds.

I appreciate hearing everyone's stories. I grew up in Oregon too, on the coast, and then in Oregon City as a teenager. A kid I knew on the coast moved to Portland and got murdered walking down the street a few years ago. I tell my kids about old Oregon from 40+ years ago because the state has totally changed since the mass migration from California. I'm sorry that anyone feels like they have to leave because of the crazies that have moved in, but I get it.

I don't know enough about Daylen's case to determine if he is guilty of not helping an injured person, etc. but I do know that I would not want my kids to be subjected to that situation. Hopefully his case is resolved soon.

Okay, so if the U of O administration cordoned off 60% of the seats at Autzen stadium and said nobody could sit there except U of O employees while simultaneously allowing a mob of fans from another school into the stadium who didn't buy tickets and allowing them to sit in any empty seats they find, then the remaining seats that were not cordoned off and not occupied by the mob of new non-paying fans from another school would probably rise in price. If some huge company then swooped in and started buying up season tickets and flipping them at higher and higher prices, then suddenly normal fans might have a hard time affording them. They might not even want them anymore because they would have to sit among the groups of non-paying fans from other schools rooting for the other team and all the time they would be gazing at the rows and section of empty seats and wondering if there was more ticket availability at another school in Arizona.

How's that?

Someone impeded my ability to walk down the sidewalk the other day, so i stabbed them in the throat, because you know, stand your ground.

There is a pathology that justifies that behavior that is quite repulsive, especially since so many of those same people espouse "Christian values."

so basically, 1 part of the field had a giant turd on it so the defense had no where else to go other than to run a 0 blitz (you have to put the bodies somewhere!). The OL was vastly outnumbered and undisciplined [not to mention that the QB running the show was a walk-on], and it became SAC city for the rest of history. Now you're flipping on the TV and it's 4th & 80 so it's already a foregone conclusion how this one will end... unless we can get a program defining miracle of some kind!

(I lived in Oregon for a few years (3.5) as a kid and was enamored by the beauty of the scenery and how great the weather was. People were great too but this was 20 years ago. Graduated from Texas but will always be a Duck fan 8-) )

Ahh yes, the dichotomy of “Christian values”. Much like the bleeding heart progressives and their “tolerance”. Unless it involves a view that even slightly differs from their own. Then they cannot tolerate.

Their bleeding hearts bleed for everyone except those who have busted their asses with hard work to get where they are in life (people like Daylen Austin on the field and in the classroom).

Good point. You and STU changed my mind.

Lock Daylen up and throw away the key.

That poor guy that threatened him and jumped in front of his car with a hammer? He likely just needed ONE more chance to turn his life around.

He was one of those “needs 53 chances so he can turn it around on the 54th” type of criminals.

How dare Austen and his “athlete privilege”!

Dude is guilty. Lock him up.

You know... the key issue these days is that we live in a world where it's like a football program in transition. Half the team doesn't understand the new playbook or offensive philosophy, while the other half has very limited knowledge on the old playbook and only understands the new playbook or whatever playbook they used at their prior destination. Football is a team sport and people always assume the best of their teammates; teammates are supposed to look out for each other and are on the same page as far as general football philosophy. The people from the prior era still hold these "old school" views, while the new players actually don't hold this general idea at all and are more selfish [like the NIL era!].

Unfortunately, this creates a split within the ability for the offense to achieve any level of productivity. You have a schism within the room where you have 2 completely different "cultures" attempting to co-exist. There in lies the issue behind this beautiful case study of this failing football program.

What a completely unhinged response; but then you never even linked an article to what it was that you felt was so egregious. Is it merely that the Judge denied his motion to dismiss the case?

I'm a fan of state and federal tax dollars going towards more mental health wards/institutions for those who cannot live in society in a functional way, but that doesn't mean we drive or gun down every mental person we come across.

That is so well said. Life is a team sport. I realize folks like STU and Duck07 have different political views than I do. I also realize they are thoughtful and intelligent people. (In spite of my snarky remarks and sarcasm, which I realize can come across as extremely self-righteous).

We as a society need that because it makes us balanced and brings different ideas to the table. It’s a 360 degree way to attack a challenge.

My beliefs and preferences are based on my own experiences. That doesn’t make them “right”, it’s just that they are presently valid to ME.

If everyone in the world agreed with me two things would happen.

#1 - we’d all be royally effed because I am an idiot
#2 - it’d be quite boring

While I understand the motivations to leave a state like Oregon, it’s sad to see so many Christians retreating from places that—by their own definition—are most filled with darknesses, and most in need of the light of Christ.

It only highlights the incomprehensible love of the Father though, who refused that same temptation and instead embodied our frailty and stepped into humanities darkest and most broken corners, ultimately taking on the powers of sin and evil through self-giving love, absorbing their power into himself and thus defeating them.

Sadly, many Christians in the West understand the Christian life to be a personal project of self actualization, with God as their personal benefactor. In reality, we’re called to participate in God’s project: Restoring creation “on earth as is it is in heaven.” And I think the state of Oregon is included in that.

I'm not sure I agree with the take on the line in the Lord's prayer, which I think points to a future time of God's intervention, until which time we are strangers and aliens. But I certainly agree that Oregon needs to hear the good news along with everyone else. People with families are in a difficult position as the missionaries for the darkness place themselves primarily in government and schools in order to convert other people's children after they abort or indoctrinate their own. I don't blame anyone for wanting to find more hospitable climes while they raise their children. Bad company corrupts good morals. Still, we should never lose a heart for the lost, and I am as guilty of forgetting this as anyone. Thanks for your post.

I appreciate the thoughtful response.

We have 3 kids under 7 so I understand the fear and instinct to protect them. Ultimately, what we fear more though, is becoming white washed tombs, and raising people who are moral do gooders but could miss God if he was standing in front of them. The fact that the most sinful of society (prostitutes, tax collectors) recognized Christ while the righteous killed him is hard to ignore, and our hope is that our kids get a glimpse of the real Geez through our home and church community as we do our best to love God and neighbor in a messy place.

As for the theology, a few years ago I would’ve agreed with you. Since then I’ve been convinced of the already/not yet dynamic of the Kingdom being taught by scholars like Tim Mackie, Scot McKnight and NT Wright. Christ preached that his kingdom was “at hand” before inaugurating it through his death and resurrection. We’re now invited to participate in his cosmic restoration plan, establishing kingdom outposts in the midsts of the empires of this world, until he finally restores all things at his return.

Of course, God can call people to leave the state but generally, people I’ve known move because of politics and an attempt to isolate themselves from the world.
