Will he stay for the playoffs? For Tosh, I feel like we could just plug in Hampton, but hard to imagine someone could replace Stein, maybe Mehringer?

I imagine Kentucky will allow Stein to stick around. He'll just have to start hiring his staff while also doing game planning duties, similar to what Lanning did at UGA.

Edit: Sure enough, Thamel is saying he will.

I'm not really a fan of replacing Tosh with Wilcox, but I'd have a hard time saying no to Chip returning as our OC. He doesn't really recruit, but neither did Stein, and Chip is a superior college-level playcaller when given speedy athletes to work with. Though not sure if it would be worth damaging our relationship with Moore if that would be a factor.

I doubt there'll be any retreads or fired coaches coming to replace Stein. Lanning will do his due diligence and get the best possible young OC possible.

An unfortunate part of this is that Kentucky will have budget to take some assistants aww way from Oregon, and Cal can do the same if there are promotions to be had. Lanning will have his work cut out for himself this off-season.

I wouldn't want CK back, not even for one play call.

I have a feeling Lanning is perfectly okay with rotating coordinators every 2 or 3 years. Getting top quality young coordinators shouldn't be any issue when he can easily promote that he has put 3 coordinators into 3 head coaching positions in 3 years. He's got a nice coaching tree started under him.

I'd take anyone off that list over Chip Kelly. I know Chip was great in his time with us, but he's not the future

Looked at the offensive FBS rankings for North Texas, and they’re as below, I think Jordan Davis could be a good replacement, young and eager to grow:

-Points per game: 1st
-Yards per game: 1st
-Pass yards per game: 5th
-Rush yards per game: 63rd
-3rd down efficiency: 33rd
-Yards per play: 8th

I will probably get hate for this, but Stein has had elite talent and produced better than average results, not elite results. That pistol formation is garbage and running up the middle with it is ridiculous. I wish him good luck, but I think you will most likely see an Avalos or Arroyo type trajectory than anything else.
