Oregon DC search

Post by greenyellow »

This was always the easiest position to fill as Hampton has been the heir apparent since he arrived. Now it'll be how they fill Tosh's OLB/Edge position. Kamran Araghi is listed as the Edge coach but that was likely more due to Tosh not being to do DC, OLBs, and Edge all at once. Probably go for an outside hire there.

It's very ironic that Josh Wilcox and Trent Bray would both actually be great hires for the position in question.

Some names that I think would be interesting for Tosh's replacement:
Aazaar Abdur-Rahim (Maryland co-DC, was on staff with Lanning at Bama, could take over secondary and allow Hampton to solely be DC)
Ikaika Malloe (has DC and co-DC experience, known as a good recruiter. Has coached both OLB and DL.)
Archie McDaniel (OLB position coach with someone like Tuioti becoming co-DC)

If you didn't have an AM radio show, I don't want you.

With Lupoi and Stein gone, especially if you watch Lupoi’s Cal presser, see how intense he is to get recruiting and signing players and coaches. How much will he and Stein have the time to game plan, and be focused on UO? Are the moves of Mehringer and Hamp being so quick, that Dan says ‘thank you, but no thank you’ respectively, of course to both Stein and Tosh?

It'd probably be better for both parties if Tosh and Stein moved on now. We don't need half baked gameplans. They need to recruit. Will root for them both to succeed.

I probably is a bit awkward, but based on the schools they are going to, it may be their only opportunity to coach in a playoff victory, so it makes sense that they would want to see the season through. Coach Lanning himself did it and it seemed to work out okay for everyone.
