My hope/expectation is that Malchow and staff are primarily handling the transfer portal as this is what they do, not on field activities.

Thanks. Selling a running back on coming to Oregon when you have two prolific true freshmen seems like quite the task.

Re: Oregon Football - 2026 Transfer Portal
I saw we offered him, but given that Lanning and UO has asked that no one puts out the info who was on campus, I’m not sure it was Vargas or not. Side note George Wrightster said Vargas is his son’s roommate, and that he missed half the year due to injury. But that he’s a very good RB.UOducksTK1 wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 11:51 am247 reporting UC Davis RB Carter Vargas is a visitor.buckmarkduck wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 10:03 amLanning said he met with 2 potential portal guys yesterday. Carter Vargas from UC Davis. Oregon, LSU, and Michigan State apparently all interested. His buzz to on the field production is pretty insane.
Got hurt in game 8 but before was averaging 8.5 carries and 1.2 catches per game (67 carries for 445 yards and 5 TDs) in the Big Sky, where a 5-8 and 170 pound RB from Westview in Portland (Jordan Fisher) was getting the chunk of their carries (185 carries for 1121 yards and 8 TDs). Be interesting to see where he lands, and how he fares.

I'm unsure about taking a lineman from Alabama due to their lack of a running game the past 2 years. We need guys who are great blockers, as well as being very good in pass protection. I'd like to learn more about him.

It looks like he's done well in pass protection.

Oregon's first transfer commit is Nevada P Bailey Ettridge, another Aussie. He was a 27-year old FR last season so he's one of the oldest players in CFB. Plus, James Ferguson-Reynolds approves.

Not only could they not run, the Bama OLmiverall was terrible. That’s why I wasn’t surprised IU killed them, I never saw them being able to block the front of IU.SuperDuck wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 1:58 pmI'm unsure about taking a lineman from Alabama due to their lack of a running game the past 2 years. Looks like we're prioritizing Special Teams, which I really like. Should hopefully be very good there again for next season.

Re: Oregon Football - 2026 Transfer Portal
The ScoopDuck/On3 people clearly don't know anymore than what anyone with Twitter knows, but posting here for summary's sake.
https://www.on3.com/teams/oregon-ducks/ ... l-players/
Essentially says:
QB? Who knows. But rumors exist around Leavitt, and Ty Simpson's agent is trying to get him a bigger paycheck with guarantees.
RB? Also who knows, but a kid in Minnesota says he was contacted by Oregon and the UC Davis running back is a potential option.
WR? Iverson Hooks from UAB, and maybe a Syracuse WR but nothing solid.
OL? Tyree Adams, as mentioned, and some rumors around a UCLA lineman.
DL? Maybe an edge from Florida, but maybe not.
LB? Probably not the kid from Pitt because he'll cost too much. Nothing more than guesses beyond that.
DB? Depends on what Thienneman does, but maybe Koi Perich from Minnesota. Maybe Smith Snowden from Utah but he'll probably want to be the starter somewhere. Maybe the Toledo safety, but Indiana might have the inside track. Maybe the Southern Miss safety, but nothing concrete. Oh, and here are some other names for the fun of it.
So no one outside of campus has any idea. Either: 1) We spent large on high school players and there isn't much left for the portal; 2) Existing players not yet making their NFL decisions is really hamstringing planning for '26; or 3) We're happy with where we are.
