I get the argument you are making, but I think Dante is in a position that playing gives him a chance to improve or reestablish his draft stock.
I guess it just depends then what his contract says. I don't think he'll gain much by coming back here and playing meaningless games behind an underperforming O-line. In fact, if he did want to bolster his draft stock, I'd almost expect him to transfer and play someplace else next season. Is our line next year going to be any good? Seems like next season could be a bit rougher than we all thought it might be.
We need to splurge in the off season on some top OL transfers and elite OL coach. Perhaps the most important position group of a team. If you swithed our OL and OL staff with any of the current top 15 teams, none of those teams are also making the CFP this year.

Sounds like he’s done. Don’t blame him as the season is over and Lanning has admitted as much by firing Mehringer. Fans should get some money back though.

*!#$!*%!

This is my fault. Before the season I was telling marginal ducks fans they needed to pay attention because this could be our year. What a nightmare.

Maybe the good news is we found out about Raiola before they inked him as next year's starter? Could affect recruiting/ transfer portal.

I would like to see what Akili can do now, finally. What is there to lose at this point?

There’s definitely a silver lining to all this. A healthy Dante would’ve likely resulted in a decent 2-3 loss season, masked the underlying offensive issues, and meant going into next year with the same offensive staff and Raiola as the QB. Dante’s injury basically fast-tracked the rebuild.

This, 100%. I get we’d be 6-1 probably with Dante, but there’s no doubt the offensive needs an overhaul. I’m sad about how this season has gone, I was very skeptical about how this season would go and didn’t think we’d be a natty team, but I certainly didn’t think it’d be this bad. But despite the sadness, there is excitement and optimism that with Dan learning this tough lesson, it will elevate the program going forward increasing the chances we see a natty within the next decade.

It really sucks that the last play we saw Dante play at Oregon is him going down with his concussion at USC.

I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere that he's done. Is this something he allegedly told the team and we there just hasn't been a public announcement yet?
Willie Taggart is a dick.

I think there are rumors floating around but most just see the writing on the wall with him.

Is Dante Finished At Oregon?

Lanning said if it was up to Dante he’d be out there. “He’s not choosing.”

Not sure what exactly to make of that but I imagine it’s a combination of medical advice and Dante’s handlers not wanting him to risk further damage.

Ducks now need to pick up two QB’s in the portal this offseason. Not that Dante’s option would have changed this. They need to pick up a starter, and a QB in waiting.

I wouldn't be mad at Dante if he wanted to sit the rest of the season. He came back to win a natty for the school. But we didn't provide him with a proper OL, OL coach, QB coach, and OC. Our offense is in shambles now and if he came back it would most likely make him look even worse. And the incompetent OL couldnt protect him against the easier games we had in the beginning of the season. He'd only risk more injuries.

I also would be made if our seniors sat out. It would give us a rare opportunity to see our younger players play in live game situations and evaluate which ones would pan out, so we know which areas to aggressively recruit in the transfer portal. It would also give valuable experience to the players who will be back next year. Not things we could do before as a playoff team.

No idea really, but many have stated Mehringer was endorsed by Dante, and could have been a contributing reason he came back.

Wondering if anyone will ever know why Dante won’t play the rest of the season. There are so many weeks remaining in the season. A concussion that goes over two months, when the MRI and other stats show no damage? I get there won’t be a Natty to play for. But, who pays his NIL money? Does injury insurance cover it? Not trying to play conspiracy theorist, but kind of, just to have someone explain the possible nuances. I don’t disbelieve Dan’s press statement, but I also smell a little coach-speak lately on this subject.
