Ducks add Virginia to schedule

Ducks go to Virginia this upcoming season with Virginia coming to Matt Court next season. Add the Nov 27 Rose Garden game against Duke and the Missouri game and the Ducks have at least 3 challenging out of conference games.

Tough schedule for an undermanned team with a new coach but you don't get better by beating up on cream puffs.

The flip side is probably that we will know how hard, and how well, this team is going to play by the time the PAC 10 rolls around.

Virginia was not a good team last year and got smoked in the ACC, but they do have a couple dynamite players. Junior SG Sylven Landesberg averaged over 17 a game and is pretty big for his position (6-6). Senior PF Mike Scott is a talent, too. Tony Bennett should have a better handle on his guys this time around.

I love this. Virginia is a program on the rise thanks to Tony Bennett. Bennett put together a strong recruiting class last year and the Cavaliers definitely have quite a bit of talent.

Btw, Sylven Landesberg, inexplicably left Virginia to pursue a professional basketball career. Landesberg was coming off of an outstanding sophomore year. Towards the end of the season, Bennett suspended Landesberg for the rest of the year for skipping classes. Clearly, Landesberg and Bennett did not see eye-to-eye, but Landesberg was foolish to leave school. Landesberg had an opportunity to turn around a dormant program and obtain a degree from one of the best universities in the world.

One thing that really bothered me about Ernie, was his scheduling towards the end of his tenure. We had one of the worst out of conference schedules in the country, so that Ernie could artificially enhance the team's record to make it appear as though they were better than they actually were. With last year's OOC schedule, Oregon should have easily won 20 games, but lost to Portland, Montana, and St. Mary's (who at the time was not playing great basketball). Ernie loaded up on softies like Oakland (which is apparently in Detroit), UC Davis, Montana St., Idaho St. and of course, who can forget Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

I definitely give credit to Altman for scheduling some better teams. I may actually be moving to the DC area, in which case, I'll most like be able to attend the Virginia game.

Lol at first I thought this was football, and I'm like cool Virginia would be an interesting opponent and would be fun to go to the East.

I bet we can expect a game similar to ones with WSU under Bennett, but maybe with a tad more explosiveness due to the athletes Bennett can get at UVA versus WSU.

Actually, the reason Landesberg left is not so inexplicable. Evidently, he decided early on that he wanted to apply for the 2010 NBA draft. He quit attending at least one of his spring semester classes and Bennett suspended him for the three final games (I think) for this. Even if he had wanted to return, it was assumed he would have been academically ineligible for next season as he never would have passed the class and he could not have recovered his standing in summer school. He pursued this course of action, did not make it with any NBA teams, and had to sign with a team in Israel.
