Can he not develop guys that he didn’t recruit? It was Conerly’s first year starting, JPJ’s first full season and first season playing center, Cornelius’s first year in FBS. Did they not progress at all between 2022 and 2023? Sure, it’s not the full picture, as multiple coaches have contributed to their development over the years, but to give him no credit also doesn’t seem right. The thing with offensive line, is you won’t see a line primarily of your guys until year 3 or 4, so next year would be the first time I’d expect to accurately be able to gauge his recruiting. They could potentially be replacing 4 starters though at that time, so there could be growing pains in that respect, as well.

not a good showing but Terry should get more time. You can't simulate game play experience so hopefully Pickard and the rest of the right side can figure it out as the season progresses.

At a certain point, Stein, knowing that his OL is problematic, needs to find a way to score more than 24 points against a FCS school.

Woke up today thinking about this. I'd say the last time the OL was this problematic would be the Doug Brenner TCU game.

I think connerly and Cornelius can figure it out. I always struggled with seeing Harper as an NFL player but he can be solid for college.

I'm really hopeful that they just got in their heads and can work it out. They have 5 guys who you individually have the ability, counting Bedford and Poncho.

See this is why I'm optimistic, it seems like Poncho, Cornelius, and Conerly played their worst game collectively compared to any game last year. It's just mind boggling that it happened against Idaho. You'd think a bad game against Idaho would still be 40 points (opposed to 60+).

I realized that my recording of the Idaho game did not work. Now I'm worried that the recording didn't work, not that it didn't record that game. Next up.

While the OL certainly wasn't up to standards. That unit has to have the most chemistry on the field besides the wideouts and QB. On top of game speed and physicality, I think they deserve some leeway on report cards. With that being said, 3 of the 5 starters played together last year. Need some leadership out of older guys like Harper and Cornelius to pull the interior up to where they need to be. I would say leadership goes the furthest on the OL compared to other position units. Or maybe just take the old-fashioned route and get them on a 5-man sled and see which way it turns after they drive it 15 yards. Plug n play baby!

The difference between the 4th quarter and the rest of the game was pretty stark. They got better. The exception is that Poncho got abused by the interior Idaho lineman, and Pickard wasn't a ton better but usually didn't have a DL lining up over his nose so it stuck out less. I think we all got way too ahead ourselves in anointing Poncho the next great Oregon lineman.

Anecdotally a lot of the team might have been up to some shenanigans the night before. Several lineman were puking during warm ups. The Boise State game will probably indicate if there was any truth to the rumor.

The last time I saw this happen was the Aloha Bowl against Colorado. The entire team stayed up all night drinking before the game. After that Belotti started sequestering the team in hotels the night before games.

The hotel thing is true and there are room checks so the claim is probably dubious.

There are room checks and my guess had there been any ‘issues’ Dan would have taken action which certainly may have not been made public but I doubt in the team hotel there was a big party or the mini bar was raided.

The nature of the beast of message boards is stuff like this gets posted and then takes on a life of its own.

Certainly a possibility. It was very hot and I can only imagine it was worse on the field.
