I don't think coaches can vote for their own team but I could be wrong

Not only did that one coach not only vote Oregon as #1, but they voted Oregon as #7….My guess is some dumb SEC coach that put all SEC teams in the top 6.
To be fair a few years ago there was an article or news story about the coaches polling and what I got out of it is very few Head coaches actually fill it out. According to my memory most HC have a GA or some other low level coach/staffer fill it out. Again if I remember right one coach they interviewed said he had the equipment manager do it. Did a quick google search to try and find it but the results were swamped with stories of todays release and I gave up after a few pages of results.

That's not how the coaches poll works.
You see 1/7. That means the highest rank we've been this year is 1 and our lowest was 7.

That's not how the coaches poll works.
You see 1/7. That means the highest rank we've been this year is 1 and our lowest was 7.

I think that was a big part but to me, as great as the coaches are, the biggest issue was starting Pickard at C and Poncho at RG which to me was just a mistake. If Poncho started at C with Harper and Strother at G then I think Oregon beats Idaho by 4 scores and BSU by 2 scores, still close than we would have hoped but not as close.
What’s crazy to me is that after that week 1 game against Idaho, if you told after week 10 that one team was 9-0 and one team was 6-3 I would’ve thought it would be the other way around.
Latest rankings are out, which you can find elsewhere, but the matchups are...
#9 Tennessee @ #8 Ohio State (Winner plays #1 Oregon)
#10 Indiana @ #7 Georgia (Winner plays #2 Texas)
#11 Alabama @ #6 Notre Dame (Winner plays #3 SMU)
#12 Arizona St @ #5 Penn State (Winner plays #4 Boise St)
The big questions:
1) If Oregon beats Penn State, where does PSU land? Do they still host a game? (Oregon losing would put them at #5, so the shakeup would be minimal)
2) If Texas beats Georgia, where does Georgia land? Do they still host a game? (Texas losing would move them to no worse than #7)
3) Biggest of all - If Clemson beats SMU, does SMU stay in the field and Alabama lose its spot to Clemson? If you view a championship game loss as a "half loss" to not fully punish teams playing for conference crowns, you'd have a 1.5 loss SMU against a 3 loss Alabama for that last spot.

^ I would have it the same way, but I don't know if the committee would keep Penn State above Ohio State when they lost heads up. Since we don't know how big a deal losing a championship game is (is it viewed as a half-loss, as I mentioned), it's hard to predict.
That said, my prediction would be entirely the same except ND at 6, Ohio State at 7, and Penn State at 8.
