So then we dont go through the top ranked should we win? I fail to see the problemDuck07 wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 10:13 amShoot, even if the talking heads wanted to drop us a spot it's probably only going to benefit us by putting us into the 6 spot where we'd avoid the 1 seed until the final and make sure that we host a 1st round game. If Evan Stewart and Dak are both good to go now, it probably helps to give the offense a game together.Phalanx wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 9:41 amStein is still coaching through the playoffs just like Lanning did at Georgia. As far as I know, Tosh has not even been named the Cal coach yet. I don't think coordinators have the same weight as head coaches in terms of perception by the committee, but at any rate, we only have to hold it together for five more days. Afterthe final rankings come out next Sunday, the field will be set and new rankings won't matter anymore.alxtw wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 9:33 am Do we drop in ranking if potentially both our coordinators are gone?
Also, has it been announced if will stein will still be our OC for the playoffs and natty?

I thought it was only used to differentiate "comparable" teams.

Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
This article will be dated in just a few hours, but just a thought exercise.
https://athlonsports.com/college-footba ... ek-14-2025
1. Ohio State 2. Indiana 3. Georgia 4. Texas Tech 5. Oregon 6. A&M 7. Ole Miss 8. Oklahoma 9. Notre Dame 10. Alabama 11. Virginia 12. Tulane
Oregon would get Tulane first, and then move on to play Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl while Ohio State plays Oklahoma/Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl. Winners would play each other in the national semifinals.
Elsewhere in the bracket, I could see Virginia as a trendy pick to upset A&M. Those are very similar teams. A&M receiver KC Conception left the Cavaliers to take a big check from the Aggies, and the Cavaliers became better without him. Those situations give me hope that we won't see "super teams" after all.

Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
I realize people won't ever be happy with any rankings, but there are some serious "WTF" items here. Alabama got outgained by a shitty Auburn team 411 yards to 280, and moved up ahead of Notre Dame? There is absolutely zero justification for that other than the committee is trying to position Alabama such that they won't fall out if they lose to Georgia in the conference championship game.
Less relevant but also insane, Georgia Tech loses to Georgia and moves up a spot. Really cements that a loss to a SEC team is apparently better than beating an ACC or Big 12 team, a fixture in playoff committee logic.
At least they put James Madison in, despite being 6 spots lower than the AP poll.
If there's no movement, this would mean Oregon vs. a G5 team at home, followed by a trip to Dallas to play Texas Tech.

Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
Does Oregon get #3 seed if Georgia and Texas Tech lose?
This is actually one of the scenarios where I'd prefer a BYE in first round, so we'd avoid Ohio State in semis if we advance.

It could also see Ole Miss get a Bye in that too, lolUOducksTK1 wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 5:31 pm Does Oregon get #3 seed if Georgia and Texas Tech lose?

If BYU beats Texas Tech, doesn't Oregon move up to #4 and a bye?

My worry is that even if UGA and TTU win, Oregon could still potentially move into the top 4 should Indiana lose the Big Ten CG and get bumped down to #5.

I would bet a lot of money Indiana does not drop below us, unless they lose by like 30+ points.greenyellow wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 5:48 pm My worry is that even if UGA and TTU win, Oregon could still potentially move into the top 4 should Indiana lose the Big Ten CG and get bumped down to #5.
I think losing championship games will have just a little negative consequence. Dropping out of BYE would be a significant negative consequence, which would be outside of the precedents and narratives of the committee so far.

How is Notre Dame ahead of Miami? Miami beat them.
Alabama lost to FSU by 20....how are they in the top 12?

Re: CFP Playoff Rankings
Actually, I don't see Miami making it unless Alabama loses to Georgia. That would likely knock out Notre Dame, as well. Vanderbilt has no chance, and I'd be shocked if BYU upsets Texas Tech.StevensTechU wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 11:11 am Of the 15ish teams who could still theoretically get in, who would Ducks fans least like our chances against?
I think I'm something like...
1. Ohio State (shutdown defense, offensive weapons) 2. Indiana (beat us by 10 at our house) 3. Miami (defensive line and run game) 4. Georgia (capable of playing big in big moments even though I don't think they're as good as 5/6) 5/6. Texas Tech (really good defense) Notre Dame (explosive run game and well rounded) 7. Ole Miss (good overall team 8/9. Texas A&M (explosive but also meh) Oklahoma (great defense and terrible offense) 10. Virginia (a better overall team than they get credit for) 11. Vanderbilt (annoying QB style) 12. Alabama (logo is scarier than the team's performance) 13. BYU (a notch down in talent and one-dimensional offense) 14. North Texas (theoretically, their offense could go off) 15. Tulane (overall OK team) 16. James Madison (a step down from last year's Boise, talent-wise)
That said, I'd list them as follows:
1. Ohio State (shutdown defense, offensive weapons, but we also have the same. I'd give them an edge on defense, but I think we have a better offense overall as long as everyone is healthy)
2. Indiana (beat us by 10 at our house) Yes, but they were able to consistently get to Dante. If we negate that then we'd be able to put up more points.
3. Georgia (capable of playing big in big moments even though I don't think they're as good as 5/6) 5/6) Neither do I. They're a very good team, but not elite like they have been in the past.
4. Texas Tech (really good defense) and offense! They just don't get the credit they deserve.
6. Ole Miss (good overall team), but how good without Kiffin? Their offense is elite, but their defense is average, at best.
7. Texas A&M (explosive but also meh) I think we'd beat A&M handily.
8. Oklahoma (great defense and terrible offense) The concern with OU is if we could put up enough points. Their defense is for real!
9. Alabama is one dimensional. They can't run OR defend the run. I think they'll lose their third game vs Georgia and get knocked out of the CFP.
10. Notre Dame (explosive run game and well rounded) I hope we don't have to play them. They're playing as well as anyone right now.
I wouldn't be concerned about any of the teams below. UV chokes under pressure.
10. Virginia (a better overall team than they get credit for), 12. Alabama (logo is scarier than the team's performance) 14. North Texas (theoretically, their offense could go off) 15. Tulane (overall OK team) 16. James Madison (a step down from last year's Boise, talent-wise)
