Another transfer rumor

Only this time coming rather than going. Take it for what it is worth.

Wow....please transfer Darrel Scott!

He was a major flop last year, but the number 1 RB has to have some talent and he no doubt has the size to be our "thunder " back. Dont know about this other kid though.

Very interesting
Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

According to Scout at least, the Josh Smith in question had an Oregon offer coming out of high school...

As far as Josh Smith goes, he wants to go to a school that has a specific degree in music which according to this article http://www.buffzone.com/news/2009/may/3 ... o-boulder/ is ASU or USC. Here's a quote:
Two schools that offer the music major Smith is interested in are Arizona State and Southern Cal. Both are possible destinations for the product of Moorpark, Calif. Smith began making rap demos and CDs during high school and has continued to pursue his love of music in college.

He spent time last year in the Phoenix area recording tracks with Arizona State quarterback Samson Szakacsy. Smith grew up in Tallahassee, Fla., with two older brothers involved in the music business there, and he began rapping at a young age because of their influence.
Also from that article, maybe to appease any "the sky is falling" sentiments due to the recent transfers, notice that a few other player transferred away from Colorado due to homesickness.

Here's a quote:
(Ryan) Wallace is the third member of the nationally ranked 2008 recruiting class to leave the program. The former three-star recruit came to Boulder from Kentucky and was said to be homesick at times last year.

Wallace and former five-star recruit Lynn Katoa helped elevate the 2008 recruiting class to a top-15 ranking by Rivals.com and a top-30 ranking by Scout.com. Neither played last season. Wallace redshirted and Katoa was academically ineligible.

Wide receiver Chance Blackmon decided to transfer in April in order to be closer to his family in Texas.

I'm not going to get too excited but man, DScott could be huge for us. Get him in shape & focused and we could have a big time RB on our hands.

Please please please be true.. Scott was injured most of the year so its hard to call him a flop. Also, I don't know Colorado to well, but I think I remember hearing that they had a young O-line that had problems staying healthy. Put that with its tough to make an imeddiate impact at the college level as a 18 year old, I think the best years for scott are ahead of him.. please please be true.

Looks like Smith has only been given permission to transfer to USC http://www.coloradodaily.com/news/2009/ ... -usc-only/.
The Colorado athletic department granted a release to wide receiver Josh Smith, allowing him to communicate with the University of Southern California about a possible transfer there.

Athletic director Mike Bohn, however, has refused to grant Smith a release to any other school. Smith was considering eight to 10 schools.

Smith has appealed Bohn’s decision to a committee that oversees such situations, and he should know within two weeks whether the committee will overrule Bohn.

Kinda weird. Why would he allow a transfer to USC but nowhere else?

They are calling his bluff on his stated reason for wanting to transfer. They picked a school that met the music requirement but also picked the one he would most likely not be given a football scholarship or earn playing time if they did give it to him. They are trying to pressure him into taking the deal they offered him of playing football for them while taking music at a Denver college.

He probably would prefer to go to Arizona State where he could play football and pursue music with a friend on the ASU team. Colorado is blocking the ASU transfer because it would be a no-brainer for him. By limiting him to USC they are trying to pressure him into staying.

In the long run this will backfire on the Buffs and be used against them in future recruiting.

I would love for Scott to transfer here but if he really is wanting to come here, why would CU allow it if they aren't allowing this Smith kid to go where he wants. I'm just trying not to get too far ahead of myself. Not only does Scott have to choose us but CU has to grant him his release.

I think you're right, they probably would try to block Scott from Oregon, and with much more justification than what they are pulling here.

I don't think it is unreasonable to block a player from following a coach to a school that hired the coach away from your school.

I hate it when schools pull this crap! If a kid wants to leave your school you should have absolutely no say. Sitting out a year is punishment enough.

Gotta admit, 1 or both of these guys somehow transferring in to Oregon could be a nice boost in a year or so.

http://www.ralphiereport.com/2009/5/30/ ... n-wallance

"Yes, the 2008 sophomore fumbled, he dropped a few touchdowns, was injured and made some poor judgment plays but losing a guy who contributed 165 yards a game is never a good thing."

2) This was my first thought when I heard of the news and what guys like Tim Griffin of ESPN will ponder is in regards to the future of RB Darrell Scott and even if he does stay at Colorado, how will this impact his football career at Colorado? A big reason Scott came to Colorado was his uncle Josh Smith and although Kyle Ringo said in his column that this shouldn't have an impact on Scott's status, he (Scott) is a 19 year old young man who lost his best friend/family member in school. It might not be a big deal now but what about when school starts? Either way, this isn't good for what needs to be our best player in '09. I wouldn't worry about this one too much yet as it might be the first overreaction on this story but a year from now, what if the Buffs don't turn it around to a satisfactory level? What will be the first question most will ask?

3) Special teams, obviously, takes an immediate hit. Smith had 1,276 yards on kick returns, second in the nation last season. The Buffs already have major questions in every other facet of special teams play, something that probably cost them or severely impacted the results of a game or two last year. The Buffs won't get to 10, 9, 8 or even 7 wins if this part of team doesn't improve.

The athletic department has planned several announcements concerning the football program for Monday. The updates will include the status of Hawkins' efforts to fill his coaching staff in the wake of Mark Helfrich's departure to Oregon and player personnel changes, including Smith and Wallace.

That 'including' word might not mean this is over...stay tuned.

Sounds like things could be getting ugly in Boulder...

Darrell Scott had a better day as a punter than a running back. He was kicking the heck out of the ball. The crowd was ooohing and ahhhing on every punt. Him punting on the occasional play is going to be a great advantage for the Buffs. If you were a Defensive Coordinator and saw Scott in the backfield on fourth and short what would you do? Scott had a great play where he ran over a safety and kept going. He fumbled on one play and Coach Hagan was not pleased. But wow he is a big kid. I felt like a small child next to him and I’m 9 years his senior.

Who knew? Now that would be a frightening thing to see on field at 4th and short, wouldn't it?
