Ranking BCS conferences top to bottom

Post by GoDucksIn09 »

I thought it would be interesting to start a thread about the 6 conferences in the BCS to see where people rank each conference. Certainly am not claiming to be right just my speculation and opinion and thought be interesting to view others opinions. This ranking is as a whole conference. Not just the elite teams but the bad teams as well. My knowledge of every conference is a bit limited when it comes to the bottom teams so bare with me. Here is my rankings.

1) SEC.... they have from top to bottom one of the toughest conferences in my opinion and would ceratinly like to see them play more within their own conference as the pac 10 does. You can not argue that at the top they have won the BCS championship last few years. Even their bottom teams would probably fare well in other weaker conferences.

2) Pac 10 Maybe I am prejudicial. I would probably rank the Pac 10 ahead of the SEC except last year we had 2 teams that between the two only won 1 game. That is pretty sad no matter what conference play in. Of course we have USC but the teams play each other and determine a real champion based on play of each team. Even with the 2 bottom teams the first 8 are pretty good and think all 8 of them have a shot at going to bowl game this year. Not saying they will but would not count any of the top 8 out of the realm of possibility of going to bowl game.

3) Big XII when you have the likes of Oklahom and Texas in the mix for BCS championship have to give them a high rating.

4) Big 10.. Like them or not Ohio State has been close to winning national championship. Right or wrong they have been there. They also have Penn State whichw as pretty good last year and possibly one or two plays from being in BCS championship.

5) Big East I think after this year will drop the big east further down.. course only one more spot. I just do not see them as being a legitmate championship conference top to bottom. Sure Boston College and Pitt are good. Rutgers is alrught but they do not scare anyone nore does Cincinatti.

6) ACC I think the ACC had a down year last year.. but I think in couple years will see them ahead of the Big 10. They are an up and coming conference.

Alright.. what do you all think.

Looks good to me. I think you could argue some minor points like ACC > Big East, but your top 3 should be the majority of everyone else's top 3.

SEC is still over hyped, but I think they hold the edge over the Pac-10, but not as much as the general population thinks.

If the P10 were able to schedule 4 OOC games like other conferences we would have had 7 bowl eligible teams last season (assuming the scheduled a cream puff). That would have put the P10 at 7 out of 10 teams...

SEC had 8 of 12 teams make a bowl game
BIG XII - 7 of 12
BIG X -3 of 12
ACC - 10 of 12 (weak in conference competition, the entire conf went either 5-3, 4-4 or 3-5 except Duke 1-7.)
BIG EAST - 6 of 8 (not a real conference, no arguments)

1. SEC
3. BIG XII (tie)
3. PAC 10 (tie)
4. BIG X
5. ACC
6. BIG LEAST

I'll be the first to admit I'm very biased, so I couldn't give an extremely educated guess. I watch every Pac-10 game that's not on at the same time as the Ducks, watch a lot of SEC (since it's always on), and quite a bit of Big 12. I'll only watch Big 10, ACC or Big East if nothing else is on.

In essence, top to bottom, I would rank SEC, tie of Pac-10 and Big-12, but couldn't knowledgeably say the Big 10 is better than the ACC. I would only go off of what I read and hear.

But I don't think the differences between the conferences is that large. With the exception of the Big East, which seams to stink pretty bad.

I believe that the great equalizer is that no team can put more than 11 players on the field at one time.

Because of that, a well-coached starting unit can outplay a "loaded" team at times. I think any of the BCS conferences is capable of putting together a team that is better than any team in any other conference.

Rating of 1 being the worst and 10 being the toughest, best conference

9: SEC- They do play hard in the south.
8: Pac-10- I do think the Pac is 2nd
7: Big 12- Some good fooball in the midwest
5: Big East- WV has held them for a while
3: ACC
2: Big Ten- I have no respect for them or Ohio St.

1. SEC (not by as much as the SEC blowhards think)
2. Big XII/Pac-10 (Big XII is very top heavy every year with Texas and Chokelahoma being legit contenders but the middle/bottom aren't any better than the Pac-10. Although both of the Washington schools laid a big turd this year showed that even the worst Big XII teams are head and shoulders above these guys. Of course as much as I hate to say it the Fuskies will be somewhat improved this upcoming year which will make us more or less tied with the Big XII)
4. Big Ten (Penn State and Ohio State are both very good and another team usually does really well but the rest of the conference is incredibly mediocre/bad.)
5. ACC (They had the exact opposite problem as the Big Ten or Big XII. They have several decent/good teams duking it out but no real contender except Virginia Tech lately. Those were for the most part pretty young teams last year so the ACC will probably be better by the end of the season)
6. Big East (Ouch. Talk about a conference that went in the tubes. Outside of USF everyone else gets worse in some degree).

It seems so far those who have responded on this thread are almost in total agreement about the best and worst conferences. As far as the Big XII and the Pac 10 being tied that is an interesting point of view. One I can not neccesarily disagree with. The two bottom dweelers the Pac 10 had last year I doubt they could have beat the Big XII bottom dwellers. I do give the edge to the other 8 teams with the exception of maybe Texas or Oklahoma.. to the Pac 10. I do not know bout others but I am really excited to see the SEC and Pac 10 start playing each other more. Will it make any difference in the perceptions of people.. probably not. You have the SEC who has won BCS championships and is a really good defense conference as a whole.. going up against the Pac 10 who is looking for someone to come out besides USC hopefully the Ducks...and be legitmate contenders and a conference that is very offensive minded. History tells us that the defensive usually wins. I am still excited though and hope they continue scheduling Pac 10 vs SEC games. I think would be nice to have a bowl game with the two conferences every year.

UW and WSU could beat Iowa State handily. The Cyclones had 2 wins last year. One against South Dakota State (a 7-5 FCS school) and the other against Kent State (who were 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the MAC conference).

Year in and year out, Iowa State is one of the worst teams in the FBS. Just look at their records http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_State ... on_results

I'm not sure...the Cyclones still had the same amount of D-1 wins than WSU and UW combined. Granted, both played a much tougher schedule. A Locker-led UW could take them, but if my house was on the line last year, I would not have taken the Cougs. Think about it. The Cougs one win came at 16-13 in 2 OTs. 16 and 13 points in double freakin' overtime? That's as bad as it gets.

The bias, while completely undertandable (myself included!) still cracks me up. If you were to ask anyone, including Mountain West fan, I bet everyone would say SEC, their conference, and then rank them from there.

What really blows me away are the experts who are really high on the ACC this year. Seriously? The ACC? Once again, my bias shows...

The ACC is up and coming. I am not saying this year neccesarily but it is possible. They as a whole were very young last year and might show as a whole a great amount of improvement this year. Time will only tell.
