Make the o-line get some HGH, start Costa (this very well might be a knee-jerk reaction, but Masoli looked like s***, as he did more all but a few games last year. I used to think that was because he didn't have a grasp of the offense, but maybe he just isn't very good), put Kelly in the booth calling plays, and kick Blount off the team.

Im not sure if this will improve the team, but i would like to see more of LMJ and Barner. Maybe give Costa a try? Im not crossing masoli out yet. I was puzzled at Masoli for throwing to mahel more than other WR.

I second that. is it too late for Mike to come back head coaching and put C.Kelly back in Booth and do what he do the best?

Get back to basics. Run the read option. Spread the ball in the air. End of last year the receivers did an excellent job sitting in space in zone D. Boise did a good job of that tonight. I was disappointed with the DT's getting pushed into the second level. Also vibes to TJ, hopefully by some miracle his career isn't over.
BOOF it!

that is good idea if we have no other choice. What disappoint me is why they do this play like they did at holiday bowl? have masoli fake handoff and run over defender? Masoli should have kept the ball and ran for 10-15 yards instead of handing off Blount for safetysnapt wrote:Get back to basics. Run the read option. Spread the ball in the air. Re: Where Do We Go From Here?
1) Find a way to motivate this team. The team didn't seem all that hyped to play today.
2) Improve the O-Line play. Greatwood needs to do some work on basic run and pass blocking. I think that all the time that was missed by the supposed starters to injury and illness hurt us tonight.
3) Improve the passing game. Kelly needs to work more closely with the passing game and Helfrich to help the QBs and WRs get on track.
4) Toughen up on defense. The defense seemed like they were being out-hustled and out-muscled by the BSU offense. They didn't seem like they had the same tenacity as last year. I think they need to find a vocal leader like Chung or Byrd to give the team some passion. Once Ward went out, the passion on the D seemed to be gone.
That's all I have for now, but I need some more to time to comprehend what happened tonight.

I gotta agree with you on the Defense thing. Although the D was good in the second half, without Ward they are faceless and didn't play with any kind of fire or ferocity.

Re: Where Do We Go From Here?
this isn't a knee jerk reaction...
i argued with my friends that masoli's last few games of last season were the aberration and that he is clearly not a Pac-1o caliber QB.
And after tonight, they finally all agreed with me. In unison, after that horrible interception play where Masoli freezes jumps one direction, freezes, stares down his receiver, and then throws the ball to the defender.
At the risk of sounding like Bill Walton, that might've been the single worse case of Quarterbacking in the history of the UO.
This season seems hopeless now. But if we want to compete next year, hopefully Masoli will transfer to San Jose State where he belongs and Costa or Thomas will be ready to take over. Costa is obviously a concern because of the health issues, but Thomas is a far better talent than Masoli. And I'd make the argument that it would be better for the future of the program just to pull Masoli and start Thomas now.

Re: Where Do We Go From Here?
I'm not so willing to give up on Masoli so early in the season. One bad game does not warrant wanting him to transfer. I don't think it was just Masoli to blame. The team and coaching staff as a whole has to take responsibility for the game and its aftermath.

Maybe we should go with the Kiffin angle and start telling everyone that "no publicity is bad publicity."

Re: Where Do We Go From Here?
Go back to what worked last season. The read option, it opens up the passing game and all kinds of other options. Masoli was able to make big plays with it, why not continue what works. Don't fix it if it isn't broken, right? Use Holland, Barner, LMJ more and take advantage of the speed and let Costa play a few downs and see what he can do. The Ducks lost not because of lack of execution or bad defense but because of terrible play calling, it is hard to execute something that your team is not designed for (Masoli dropping back and passing). This loss is on Kelly, he had all off season to prepare a gameplan.

Re: Where Do We Go From Here?
I agreed with your post until this point. If you really think this team executed properly last night.......you are flat out crazy. The gameplan may not have been the greatest, but we'll never know. The big coaching mistake, as you note, was abandoning the gameplan and trying to throw our way back. That being said, there was 0 execution on the players part. I'm sorry but Kelly absolutely, positively, does not get all the blame for this.gofightingducks wrote: The Ducks lost not because of lack of execution or bad defense but because of terrible play calling, it is hard to execute something that your team is not designed for (Masoli dropping back and passing).
