2020 Class Write Up w/Vids
I decided to look over every announced signing in this class. We really have a good class. I've linked all of their hudl's.
OFFENSE
QB
Jay Butterfield - Dimes, dimes all over the field. He can make every throw and the field and has terrific ball placement. Not a dual threat but also not a statue. He’s already improved his body and that will only keep improving at Oregon. Could see him be QB1 for us in the future.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CYimC
Robby Ashford - Amazing athlete. He also has a terrific arm and can make every throw. He needs to get more consistent and accurate, thought. It’s great to have a true DT back on the team and I’m excited to see what the new OC will do with him.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CY5mY
RB
Trey Benson - He’s a man amongst boys and plays like it. From a physical standpoint seems to have everything you want in a RB. There will be an adjustment to D1/Pac-12 play. I think we see him a little next year but ultimately ends up redshirting. He will end up being a good RB for us in the future. Also, even if he looks like he’s physically developed he still has a baby face and looks like he will still grow. Should look like a monster before he leaves here.
hudl: https://www.hudl.com/profile/8424468/Trey-Benson/videos
WR
Kris Hutson - Explosive and tough. Dude is small but he fights for every single ball and wins a lot of the time. He’s been pretty damn dominant his senior year, too. He plays outside in HS but could see him being a pretty great weapon at slot WR in college.
hudl: (Junior Year) http://www.hudl.com/v/2B2GNu
OL
Jonathan Denis - Plus athlete. Can play multiple positions. Mean. Finishes blocks. There’s a reason they call him the Tow Truck. I think he plays next year and helps us with our lack of proven OL depth. Can definitely play C and OG and potentially even OT.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CPdbr
Marcus Harper - He wants to embarrass the dude in front of him on every play. Nasty and thick. Looks pretty athletic on screens. Probably needs a season or 2 with CMC and Maribal before he gets in the rotation.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CQySM
Jaylan Jaffers - Bullies defenders. It’s funny how he just throws them around. Physically underdeveloped and will need a couple of years before he contributes. Would love to see his senior year tape to see how he’s progressed.
hudl: (Junior year)
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/9003693/5c ... 12dcfdf4b0
TJ Bass - Big, strong dude. He gets his hands on someone and it’s over. I see him in the OG/C rotation next year.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2AP08C
Faaope Lalolulu - Massive human being. He actually moves well and sinks his hips for how big he is. He even plays volleyball. Obviously, when he gets his hands on someone, it’s over. Seems like he’s just getting his body right so I would be very interested to see how he develops. Probably won’t see the field for a couple of years.
hudl: (Junior Year) https://www.hudl.com/profile/9688778/Fa ... ulu/videos
DEFENSE
DL
Jaylen Smith - Great build. Good athlete. Carries his weight extremely well. Will be a rocked 290+ lbs in a few years. Needs to work on his technique and plays too high. After a year or two with Coach Joe he’s going to be a contributor.
hudl: https://www.hudl.com/profile/8641156/Ja ... ith/videos
Bradyn Swinson - Leeeeength. Dude is long, athletic, and quick. He can bend. He needs to add some weight/strength but he’s going to be good for us. I think we see him a bit next year but redshirts.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CLWtm
Jake Shipley - Great motor and quickness. He’s already a really thick dude and will only get stronger. Kinda reminds me of Failou. Probably redshirts next year but will be in the rotation in the upcoming years.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CGaTq
Macael Afaese - Huge. long, and athletic guy. He’s just scratching the surface on his potential. His quickness for a guy that big is impressive. Super interested what Coach Joe does with him.
hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/9508679/5d ... 0ec0b85695
LB
Jackson LaDuke - Great tackler. He shoots the gaps well and gets the dude on the ground. Kinda reminds me of Dye in that sense. Looks to have the frame to be a pretty big dude. Looks like he can play a little bit outside but I think he ends up at ILB.
hudl: (Junior year) https://www.hudl.com/video/3/7761743/5b ... 16e009913d
Jaden Navarrette - Really explosive for a kid that big. He needs to add muscle mass but I don’t see that being a problem for him. His video shows a lot of plays on offense as a WR (and he was good). So that tells you what kind of athlete he is but it’ll be interesting how he adjusts to defense at the D1 level. Really excited to see what Avalos does with him.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2Cac0e
Noah Sewell - FREAK athlete. You’re not supposed to be that big and quick at 260+ lbs. He’s aggressive and knows he’s going to beat you. The crazy part is that he’s going to get even better after a year or 2 with our S&C staff. Will also play some offense. Massive potential.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/video/3/7756049/5da ... 1038d1894f
Justin Flowe - EXPLOSIVE! BABYMAN! This dude is so strong, fast, relentless, mean, and smart. He’s the ultimate competitor and just exudes swagger. He will make an impact next year and will leave his mark.
hudl: (Junior year) http://www.hudl.com/v/2B1y69
DB
Luke Hill - Sticky. Competitor. Dude is super quick and fluid. He’s also very physical. He seemed to play his best against elite competition. Depending on who else we get at CB, I think he could play early.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2C0P73
Bennett Williams - Playmaker. He plays with a chip on his shoulder - like he has something to prove. Really smart player who reads the game well. I think he plays a lot next year and challenges for a starting spot.
hudl: http://www.hudl.com/v/2CQuKL
Jared Greenfield - Ballhawk. Reads QBs well and gets the ball. He seems to have a pretty high football IQ. TBH, he reminds me of a younger Bennett Williams. Will be interested in how he develops in the next couple of years.

Good post. There are a couple of can't miss guys in the group (health permitting), but overall this class will be a good test of the developmental prowess of this coaching staff. There is a lot of potential to be cultivated with most of these guys.

I must be pretty late to the game but i'm still very confused as to where Noah plays. He's probably too big to play LB but not big enough to play on the line - perhaps Stud/DE may work but I'm pretty sure that's not his natural position. Perhaps he moves to the offense as a FB/TE - try tackling this guy for four quarters...

He's a MLB. Both him and his dad have talked about how he will slim down in college and she's some unnecessary weight. Probably plays at 250, and already has the quickness.

He's gonna play at LB. He has elite quicks and speed for a guy that size. Slim him down a bit and watch him dominate. Coaches are saying he's also going to do some goalline stuff on offense. Watch him cover elite RBs, WRs and TEs.ducks5ever wrote:I must be pretty late to the game but i'm still very confused as to where Noah plays. In listening to Coach Cristobal, whenever he mentions the LB signees, he talks up Flowe, Sewell, and LaDuke, but leaves out Navarrette. I was wondering if they have other plans for him, or if he just doesn't rate as high.
Thanks for the write up and the research. Looking forward to seeing how these guys develop.

Both times I heard Cristobal comment he mentioned all four linebackers. Plus the Avalos interview I listened to he said all four were slated for LB.Phalanx wrote:In listening to Coach Cristobal, whenever he mentions the LB signees, he talks up Flowe, Sewell, and LaDuke, but leaves out Navarrette. I get the feeling that Navarette plays a hybrid end/LB. they’re gonna have some crazy cover/rush options

Just like Penei does stuff that no other lineman can do, Noah is gonna do stuff that no other LB can do. They’re incredible blends of size/speed/agility

Navarrette has been saying the coaches like his ability to play in space and drop into coverage. Seems more likely he plays the SAM spot.

Man I wonder if they would consider putting Sewell at tight end. He would be a monster there. (I know he will be a monster Anywhere)

I don’t think that would be the best use of his talents. He’s a LB and will also play some RB.brich75 wrote:Man I wonder if they would consider putting Sewell at tight end. He would be a monster there. (I know he will be a monster Anywhere)
