Updates on Ferguson and Burch?

Sounds like Ferguson had appendicitis surgery last week, per Lanning, google states it is normally six weeks to recover, sounds like he is out for a few weeks.

Registered Guard stated Burch is a knee injury, return unknown as of last week.

If anyone hears an update please let us know

Sadiq is going to get a bunch of targets and Stein will figure out how to match him up on slower linebackers. Tough news about Ferg, but if he is out 6 weeks, he'll be back just in time for the playoffs! Really worried about Birch, but again as the Danimal says, next man up!

No one said he won’t be back. I believe Dan said ‘relatively quickly’.

Not diminishing the procedure but appendix is a much simpler , far less invasive procedure than in the past.

I meant to say would suck, as in hopefully he and Burch are both back by then. While Michigan isn’t what they used to be those both would still be a huge help in a tough environment like the Big House.

I'm no Dr but I just read that if it bursts it's much more serious than just having it removed. That's actually life threatening.

Removed. Before it bursts, you usually become quite ill pretty suddenly. One of those "I'm glad I went to the ER/Urgent Care" kinds of things.

I'm no Dr but I just read that if it bursts it's much more serious than just having it removed. That's actually life threatening.

Nurse here, a burst appendix needs to be addressed quickly but its easily treated with antibiotics or at worst a washout and antibiotics in addition to any surgery to deal with the organ itself. Laparoscopic modern appendix surgery involved making several (depends on the procedure style) small incisions across the abdomen and robotically going in and removing the organ. Usually the hopsital stay (especially for someone young) is just a day. You cant do heavy lifting for a week to two after the procedure. The big thing is to give the sutures time to resorb as those incisions are across your abdominal muscles and the last thing you want is to tear them open trying to do weightlifting or a hard hit and its no fun breathing after surgery until things heal. 2-6 weeks is possible (3-4 is my guess).

As long as Oregon can navigate their schedule, these injuries could end up being a blessing in disguise as Burch and Ferg would be fresh for the playoff push. A healthy/rested team with an extended season could be the biggest differentiator in winning it all.
