All indications that he felt he wouldn't be playing anytime soon. Sounds like the QB situation must be pretty good or he wouldn't consider leaving it. Don't know about you but to me, the glass is half full. :)

he may have start doing some more juking instead of straight on i'm gonna run your ass over
).

For anyone who has played the game, that is the QUICKEST way to get hurt. When one delivers the blow instead of taking it, most of the time the hitter survives and the hittee is the one limping to the trainer.

I would much rather win games vs. losing them...We saw what happened with a One Dimensional QB (Harper)...Unless he has suddenly developed a passing game, I dont see any alternative other than to have DT available for duty, if and when needed..
Who knows about Costa...But if past history is any indication, he very well might not make it through August, let alone to gametime....But, if he can, Costa has shown that he can play D-1 football, for the short periods of time we have seen him play...

meh, not a big loss. In fact, it opens up another scholarship this recruiting year, which is a plus.
Masoli is built like a mac track and barring another cheap shot, I hope he won't get hurt.
DT is capable of being a backup and we can still redshirt him, we do have costa as well.

I do not comprehend transfering by Roper though..you are the NUMBER TWO QB on the roster and are leaving? Man, I just don't see the upside in playing for a D2 school over fighting for the starting spot at a Pac-10 program..to each their own and best of luck Roper.

Ugh...I liked him a lot. In fact, I thought he should've been starting over Masoli. Of course, I was wrong but I really thought Justin could develop into a very solid QB for us in the future. Good luck wherever you go Justin.

This also really sucks because now Darron will probably not redshirt.

I just don't see how DT doesn't lose his redshirt. If we can make it all year with Masoli and Costa in blow outs, then this transfer means squat. However, Roper was peace of mind in our ever so vulnerable qb depth. In the end, this transfer could mean very little or everything. At least with Pflu, we know we're losing a good 3rd down possession receiver and we can move on knowing what we need to replace. However, we won't fully realize the impact until the end of next season on this one.

To bad he waited though, because without Roper on the roster back in Feb. I would bet Boyd would have been a Duck.

This also means pulling in a QB this year is even more of a priority. I really don't want to go two straight years with only three QBs on the roster, one of whom has had multiple torn ACLs.

Now landing a QB in this class certainly became a higher priority.

Really sucks Roper left, but understandable at the same time.

I'm still a big Roper supporter, and wish him the best wherever he goes.

Roper will do well wherever he goes. More power to him. Just hope we don't have to face him in a year for two!

I have a feeling we're going to see a shake up in the QB scene with surprises from Chip thrown in. We have lots of talented players so don't get stressed out. Any time there's a coaching change, even if predictable, players make choices.

Stay calm Duck fans. We have surprises in store.

I wish Rope the best of luck. I fn laugh at the people who say meh not much of a loss. Masoli goes down this year I want to see the same people sayin that. Rope won all the games he started at Oregon. I know I know some of ya will say the same thing that ya said with Pflu....no big deal...well I think it is a big deal. I wonder what recruits think...about all the players leaving. Altho it doesnt seem to affect Tennessee. Go DUCKS...good luck Rope

I don't agree with the assessment that Roper is leaving because of the quality of talent behind him. Chip Kelly never seemed to like Roper as a quarterback. Consider the following:

In the practice week after Dixon went down in Arizona, Kempt became the No. 2 QB behind Leaf. Kempt and Roper went on to play against UCLA when Leaf was injured. Roper looked the more effective of the two, but considering it was the first time in years that Oregon had been shutout, that's not saying much. In the practice week before the Civil War, Kempt again received the majority of reps over Roper. Kempt proved ineffective during the game but was pulled only after suffering a concussion. Roper entered and lead the Ducks to a victory ... er, almost. Bellotti fouled up the win in the closing seconds and the Ducks lost in OT. Roper won the starting job in the Sun Bowl and threw 4 touchdowns.

That said, Masoli is easily the best quarterback the Ducks have. But Roper was certainly No. 2, yet it's questionable whether Kelly ever realized his talent.

If you had to rank the losses though, we'd all pretty much say Stevens, Cellotto, Roper and, lastly Pflu. Stevens would've given us the most stable starting rotation on the biggest question marke of the the team: offensive line. Cellotto was the strongest person on the team on our weakest position: DT. Roper added much needed depth on the most vulnerable position of the team: QB. Wide Receiver this year is stacked, plain and simple. However, all of these guys are losses and I don't care about extra schollies to players that haven't played a down of D1 football.

True...wr is stacked..on paper. There are few proven wrs on the team. Personally I think all of the wrs will be good..but that doesnt mean anything unless they perform. Pflu was a proven wr. I liked Pflu and Rope alot..sucks to see em go.

Agreed, I want Roper to be backup behind Masoli, It make me feel comfortable knowing that we have roper when masoli go down. He have more game expernice than D.Thomas have.
