How confident are we in Dante Moore?

Some of the rumblings about Moore feel closer to Mariota vibes than not, but i'm happy with where things are rather than say the hype Jason Fife got after Harrington left.

He'll be better than anyone we could have possibly gained from the transfer portal, or else we would have pulled someone from the portal (and that includes encouraging someone else to enter it).

This will be a good metric to evaluate as the season goes on. How is he doing compared to the top 5-10 QBs that were in the transfer portal.

I know Moore has the potential to be a great QB, but I’m nervous there will be a lot of mistakes made in year 1 as a starter. I hope not though!

This will be year 2 for him. Not sure Chip developed him much, or just threw him in the fire to try to save another failed stop after Oregon. I've seen some really nice things from video on Dante. Great Arm. Good size. Doesn't hold the ball long. Good mobility when protection breaks down. I think it will all depend on his offensive line. If they give him a clean pocked he will shine. Hopefully the schedule will allow him to gain confidence as the opponent difficulty ramps up. Going to be an interesting year for sure. I'm cautiously optimistic. I think we will make the playoffs.

From everything I've read, and the little bit I've seen, the kid has all the tools. I'm not as worried about the line as much as most, but my main concern is his development. He left ucla because of the lack of development, which tells me that he was thrown to the wolves, and very likely gained some bad habits. Hopefully last year was a good reset for him and he comes in ready.

Apropos of nothing, Tyler Shough is being talked about as a potential QB3 in this draft class.

Now certainly that speaks to the talent level at QB in this class BUT, it also speaks to players being able to grow and develop. Watching Moore's HL's from his FR year, you can see someone who makes throwing the ball look simple/easy but at times looked like he wasn't 100% on his throws which is why you see a big play but the placement is a half-second late on the hip rather than out in front in stride or a Pick-6 where he fails to read the drop-coverage by the LBs. To me these are easy fixes for someone adjusting their eyes to the speed of the game and the willingness to attack the middle of the field or go deep.

So back to Shough, who was part of Mario's "QB-Friendly" offense and and also a part of what turned out to be frustratingly average group QBs (Anthony Brown, Robbie Ashford, Brian Butterfield, Tyler Thompson) who in large part were frustrating because the lack of quick decision making. In the thread "Tyler Shough is transferring," STU posted the hypothetical about how would you feel if this player transferred to the poodles and if we use that analogy now and Moore had transferred and sat a year up there, I'd feel like he'd be more promising than Demond Williams who might be more exciting as a runner but seemingly still has a long way to go as a passer and doesn't have near the raw arm-talent that Moore does.
