BrewHawk wrote: Sun Nov 02, 2025 12:25 pm Transitive properties are BS, but I am basing my thoughts on the fact that we likely had Indiana beat had Gronowski not gone down early in the 4th quarter. The backup QB (who is now third string) was largely ineffective and botched a screen pass that again would have likely sealed the win. Excuses are like assholes, so a loss is a loss, but after watching your game vs. Indiana, I am fairly confident the Hawks will take care of business Saturday. That's why they play the games, right?

Iowa's run game is the real deal with a four-headed RB attack behind an OL that is playing really, really well. Add Gronowski into the mix and it opens up the play-action game nicely. The real wild card that should be getting more national attention (and will, if we keep winning) is Kaden Wetjen. That kid is electric, and for those who might remember Tim Dwight, has Iowa fans reminiscing.

Oregon needs to get players open in space to let them make big plays. Iowa's defense is incredibly disciplined and stout against the run, so I don't see a power run game from the Ducks being very effective. Mobile QBs can be a problem, so how willing will Moore be to tuck and run with a broken nose?

Anywho, it should be an entertaining game. The Ducks will get Kinnick at full volume, that is for sure.
Nice having you here. But unfortunately you don’t pay attention to the team with the real RBs. It was UO, not Iowa. I’ve said all along, The game plan we used last night, was what we needed to use vs Indiana. If we had, we would have beat IU also. But instead we just kept chucking the ball up for 3 and outs.

Good game, guys. This is a reply for everyone other than bdkipe, who doesn't deserve one. Still haven't really watched the game closely beyond casually following on my phone (and probably won't), as I had other more important priorities (son's baseball tournament). It was a fun game to follow (other than the outcome).

As I mentioned in my first post, if Iowa can't run effectively, they probably won't win. That came to fruition, and we still had the game in our hands, save a botched punt snap that probably hasn't happened in 20 years for the Hawks. Bottom line was that they didn't play well enough on D to seal the deal. Would have loved to have a three point lead after the last TD with a PAT to put us up four, but the safety ruined that. The Oregon OL and run game was impressive, as was the last throw down the sideline that snuck through great coverage. Either way, impressive win for Oregon in a stadium where good teams have often lost.

Good luck to the Ducks! Keep representing the Big Ten well and beat SC (as hopefully we will also).

bdkipe can now continue to vent about what a punk I am. No idea what I said to deserve all that, but whatever. The rest of you are cool.

Appreciate your reply, Brewhawk! Please don't be a stranger in the coming years.

Definitely some weird stuff happened in that game that affected things for both sides.

I don't think Iowa's loss was an indictment of your run defense. I think it's highly likely that Oregon's running game is simply THAT GOOD. We're saddled with a divisive offensive coordinator who seems reluctant to adopt a single style of play -- it's common in Oregon games for something in the offense to seem unstoppable, but then our OC just kind of abandons it and decides to try other things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But in this game, with the weather being what it was and our top three receivers being out (and a top pass-protecting O-lineman), circumstances forced his hand to stick with the run more than he might have otherwise -- and, good lord, it worked. I can't convey to you how many times this season I've said to myself, "Wow, running up the gut seems to be working extremely well, let's keep doing that," and then we stop doing that, and the offense stalls. We even saw it once in this game, where we had a 3rd and 4 in or near the redzone, and instead of just run twice for an almost imminent first down, we passed (incomplete) and then either had to settle for a FG or got stopped on fourth down, can't remember which drive that was. Anyway, in this game we were forced to do what we've been really good at almost all year long, and big shock, it worked lol.

As you can tell, I'm not a big fan of our OC.

Look at Oregon's past three games though and our running game has been dynamite. I think everyone kind of laughed off Rutgers (because it's Rutgers), but our past two games were almost identical by circumstance... facing two tough rushing Ds (Wisco and Iowa) in cold, sideways rain, where we were almost certainly going to run the ball more than usual... and the outcomes in both were identical. Just sheer domination at the LOS.

This was my first time really watching Iowa football though and I was impressed by the relentless grind of your team. They certainly started wearing down Oregon's defense later in the game and I'm thankful we didn't go into overtime, where the outcome likely would have been a coin flip. Hopefully you make it out to Autzen someday, sounds like our home field vibes have a lot in common. I'll be cheering for you from here on out!

Not sure about the game, but you had the backs of Oregon players' jerseys in your hands, anyway.

I have taken to not watching games live when I have a feeling Oregon is going to lose, so I can identify. I have still never seen the Indiana game ( I followed it on the phone too). Only one I have missed so far this season. Hope your son's baseball tournament went better for you, and thanks for coming back.

He showed up and owned it. That is solid. I tip my cap and say respect, especially if one has family commitments, which are indeed much more important that watching a bunch of 17-23 year olds and reading or replying to my nonsense on a message board. I dig the man's style and I was completely wrong an out of line. I own my boorish behavior. My bad everyone. Respect to BrewHawk and best of luck the rest of the way.

Hayden Fry used to call it "scratching where it itches" when you go with what's working. That Duck OL is huge and the RBs are talented. Still thought we had you guys, despite the punt snap and fumble on your 12. So it goes.

My BIL and I make a football trip most years and have always intended to make it out to Eugene. Maybe 2027 will be it.

Watching Hawkeye football is an acquired taste, for sure. Have to admire the effectiveness (at times), but sure can be painful considering it is supposed to be entertainment.

Thanks for the hospitality!
